First sub-zero forecast of the year...
Glad we're ready for winter...and the really cold weather is actually really pleasant...

Not so pleasant when you're taking care of livestock. I prefer the above zero temps. Hopefully, we won't have the really cold plunges we had in our first few years here when it hit -20 and lower. Yuck. Important things tend to break when it gets that cold.

Tell me Misty...
Just how cold can it go before the livestock start not liking it?
What do you do with livestock when it gets that cold.
I see 11 degree forcasted for Emmet .
I can see it now. My Boston Terrior is going to peek out the doggie door and come back in and poop on the rug

The problem with snow and small dogs is that they tend to freeze their hoo-hoo's when they squat!

I don't worry so much about the stock not liking it..it's me who doesn't.
Hauling water to the sheep up on the top pasture because the creek is frozen and slogging through the snow to feed....yuck.
The sheep are good for extreme temps and the old or hard keeping horses get rugs and all the horses get free choice hay. The constant digestion of the fiber helps keep them warm. The 3 barn cats have already moved into the cabin and the Great Pyrenees nest in a corner of the barn filled with straw.

Heck, it snows and gets cold in NYC!! Compared to some places the winters are pretty mild in NID.. I believe its right in with the national average as far as temp and snowfall.
