pacalady is on a distinguished road
All of you are much further north of Post Falls, and it isn't much easier here! I got up at 5 a.m. and knew that I wouldn't make it to work (only 4 miles and 7 minutes from here on a normal day) due to the 5' snow burm of snow in front of my garage which faces north. OK, can deal with that I thought.

Went out to the south side of the house behind the garage to make our way about 150' to the barn to feed the alpacas.... OK, not so bad there ... UNTIL I started shoveling and discovered there was 2 1/2 feet of snow (level) that needed 50' of digging to get to the driveway between the yard and the barn. Hubby headed to the tractor shed to get out the tractor with the BIG plow on it.... up to his hips in snow just getting there....while I shoveled a pathway to the barn.

All the alpacas got fed an hour late (with getting a path to them) .... The two stalls facing the west were full of snow with just a small area for the alpacas to get out of the weather.....fortunately there is only one animal per pen there, and they are sheltered ....

Did I mention we'd already plowed out YESTERDAY???? Didn't do any good as we have drifts from 3 to 6 feet here in various places.

Good news is the snow has stopped for now .....bad news is that the winds are supposed to pick up again tonight ....and the temps are going to be in single digits .....That means the snow is going to drift even more ....

Will try to get photos tomorrow, and post them .....

This is highly unusual for our area .... includng Spokane etc ..... an anomoly I think .... but still not fun. I pray for the New England residents that are experiencing much more hardships than we are!

Subdivision in Post Falls and our 4' chain link fence in the back yard only has a foot left showing at the top. I'm in Oak Harbor, WA for work right now and hubby has emailed me pics a couple times... I guess I need to stop complaining about the fact that Whidbey Island got hit harder than they have in a long time. I'm frustrated cause it's only 5" and lots of places shut down - and lots of people with no snow tires! We may have a TON more back home, but at least we know how to deal with it!

Down here in the SE section of the state we're getting hammered. Snow levels here in the valley should be about four or five inches by the time all is said and done. As luck would have it we're due for 35 mph winds that will make things ugly as best.

This sounds stupid but I don't fish. My husband dragged me off to buy gear late last summer but we're always "too busy" around here to slow down to fish. Which is sad because we moved here to "slow down". All different things keeping us busy. This year for sure we'll fish.
Anyway, people are always fishing here for something but it's not the greatest trout river because it's a little warm in summer.
The pond on our property across the road is a popular spot for brook trout and we have a creek fed stock pond we are going to try and stock this spring.

Hello Trace_Rinaldi,

Fishing you say? Lake Coeur d'Alene features awesome fishing, featuring landlocked Chinook salmon to 40 pounds! As an avid fly fisherman, I love fishing for trout in rivers and streams. One of my favorite rivers, the St. Joe, dumps into Lake Coeur d'Alene just to the east of Plummer, near St. Maries. I like to fish "The Joe" above the town of Avery, a 47 mile drive from St. Maries. Great cutthroat trout fishing. Closer to home, you could walk to Heyburn State Park from your place in Plummer. Heyburn is on Lake Coeur d'Alene and also has 3 small lakes on its 7,800 acres. You may smell like fish by your second month here!

Misty You have taught me something today.
Even though we are moving to Emmett and the snow there comes in much smaller amounts.
Make sure my Direct TV receiver is mounted on the ground so my wife can go out and sweep it clean of snow

Hey Bob! Yeah I cant wait to get there and do some serious fishing.
The most I've done so far is throw some top water plugs off the boat dock right there by Heyburn park.. I really want to learn to fly fish, maybe some day we can get together and you can show me the hot spots and a few pointers on fly fishing.. Sounds like you fish right in my locale

Misty, while I cant understand having a river in my front yard I have never fished, I CAN understand that life on a ranch can be very busy. I was raised on a family farm, and it was alot of hard work for sure..

Sorry, I dont mean to sidetrack the thread...

A buddy up in Spokane just sent my phone a pic of his car completely encased by a snowdrift. He's saying they got 3 ft of snow, but on roofs in the background it looks more like 1-2 ft. Still a lot of snow for December. When I lived in NID, it usually wouldn't do that until January, and even then the stuff over two feet in a night tended to only happen in the mountains.

And Trace, my parents live in Vegas and I swear I could hear the Twilight Zone theme playing when they sent me pics of the dogs playing in snow under PALM TREES!

This is not shaping up to be a normal winter, and I'm running away to the Southern Hemisphere in four days, so sayonara! Hopefully I don't come back to the next Ice Age.
