Avaria - you stated it perfectly.

As someone who was born and raised in Idaho (and moved away ~2 yrs ago), I strongly believe that Idaho (and places like it) need more people like you. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: if *I* had been born and raised in California, I'd be leaving too.

We moved from Idaho to Maine in 2004. We found a lot of things in Maine that were absolutely perfect, and a lot of other things that we weren't crazy about. A few of my favorite things about Maine: I drove past a huge, beautiful, deep blue lake every day on my way to take my son to the middle school. The lake was surrounded by a kazillion trees, and during the fall the sight was unbelievable. I stopped to pull over and just look at the lake more than once after we first moved there. The locals must have thought I was nuts. Traffic was non-existant. I could get almost anything I needed in less than 10 minutes. Oh yeah, and there was a CAMPING site about 5 miles down the highway from our house: all of that is unheard of in Idaho -- unless maybe you live up in Stanley or McCall.

Anyway -- point is, we missed stuff in Maine that we had in Idaho. Simple stuff, like having a lot fewer places to eat dinner, fewer places to shop, and outrageous utility costs.

I'm rambling, but the point is that I believe far too many people living in Idaho have never really been anywhere else that is that different from Idaho. They see the changes: like higher housing prices, more traffic, and more crime, and freak out. It seems only natural to blame all the new people moving in. (Of which, most of them are from California.)

You can't halt progress. All you can do is try to convince the powers-that-be to manage it correctly.

welcome to idaho. what did you all do before you came here to try make cal better? you all seem to blame the "other guy"for calif troubles. crowding, gangs, crime, etc. were you really involved or just keep your head in the sand? did you vote? most seem to vote liberal views there, are they what you bring here. the great outdoors, calif had plenty, what did you let them do to it? why should i think you'll do better here. sofar those that have come before you fence it all up and want to stop even public use in some areas. most of you complain about the Mormons before you even get here. do you not understand they have done ALOT for id, stores, businesses, etc.
you are all Americans and can come and go as you see fit, its your right. Please help keep idaho the way you first fell in love with it, not california 2

Angry Idaho Blue Skies

Mark 6052 you defiantly have it right on voting!!! How many Californians get out and vote and before you go how much do you know about the one you want to VOTE INTO OFFICE. Those are the ones ruining California.
I moved to Idaho 15 years ago from the northern part of Calif. it is one of the most beautiful states. When asking people who don't like Californians most have never even been there have no idea of the beauty California has
mountains, rivers, lakes, nice people, shopping & good food but,its changing and has been its not California anymore at least the one I knew.
The people are just voting for the wrong people or are not voting at all. Make a difference!!

Sorry to say all that you complain about is here also. Boise and surrounding areas are still beautiful but, the last 2 years has been great changes for the area.
We bought a house in Valley county thinking we could raise our kids and then move on when they were out of school. Well, the rich are our problem and big money investors who could care less. They have moved in shot up housing prices bought up land and are building huge sub-divisions and instead of hiring locals they have chosen immigrants our young kids in high school are finding it harder and harder to find jobs. With rich come bad attitudes and taxes raised to where the working man can't afford to live in a town that was nothing until a big resort and investors decide they want the town.

I was listening to Idaho Talk and one guy who had been working at the resort is getting laid off and there is plenty of work out there he asked why and they told him " we have to lay you off rather then the Mexicans" if they lay off one Mexican the others will follow. They have created a union among their selves and they know if 50-100 left it would be hard to replace them.
Like one thread said they will not simulate they won't even eat with the other workers they have a pit they use to cook tortillas and leave their garbage right where they sat rarely speak english they do not care to know the people in the town let alone become part of the community.

They except a translator or chose to ignore what people are saying to them they except our small town to carry their kind of food our small hospital to have bi-lingual speakers, our schools to have teachers for their children we can't even afford art supplies and decent P.E. equipment and other items that our American children need.
I am afraid we are all in this together moving might help but, you will probably be dealing with the same issues in 5-10 years so plan on moving again.

We the people need to not put up with this from our government we need to let them know we have had enough and will vote for those that will make a difference. Now we just have to figure out who doesn't have self serving motives and corruption in their closet.

Well, wildberries, you hit it on the head. I'm still out here in the Bay area dealing with all the things you mentioned above. It is unfortunate more people don't stand up and let them know this is a big problem. It's also too bad more people don't vote.
I sure hope this "malarkey" is'nt going on in ID too? I was hoping to move up there and get away from it. I can not take what is happening to California any longer. My home state is under attack and our Government has done nothing to stop it. It really makes me ill.......Way too many illegals here. They should build the fence and deport them all! I am taking a hard look at how are politicians are handling this and voting accordingly.

Im writing from Bend, Oregon. When i moved here , i fell in love, very kick back alot of people spend their time Hiking-biking- water sports-fishing explorong the great out doors. I relocated do to health issues, this place has trippled in size. I don't blame the folks from "Cali" but many of us call "bend" lil LA" it has been sold out to cali pretty much. everyone is linng everyones pockets and WOW had to spend 40 k on a rock display just to make it pretty for our new found guest. Many people i have met here from Cali has sold their homes there for a million or more and coming here moving to the out skirts and getting just as big house or ranch area for half the price and banken their butts! Which is good ,making money is great, but their is nothing left to enjoy any longer. all the homes they are building which are being called starter homes are running 200 to 300 + k. If thats a starter home i guess were all screwed!! You can go buy one of these 300 k homes and be on the 2nd floor open your window and touch the next house and is there a yard ? NO maybe a 6ft deck to BBQ if you can fit anyone in your yard. I surly dont have that safe feeling any longer to go hike from MT.batchlor to the falls, The only thing anyone had to worry about was getting attacked by a animal of nature and or this blood suckers that could carry your child off at times!! I blame the CITY for selling out- selling our peace- our nature- our involvment with our kids as in feeling safe and able to keep this place some what a family area. so i guess for all the new commers here one would say "Welcome to Bendover", I heard that wonderful saying the over day.......BUT how true it is.

Default to BryanN re: Huntman58

Thank you Bryan for clearing the air on the "friendly" issue. I encountered all sorts of people while in Idaho and not one of them was rude nor did they spit on my with my CA plates.

Maybe Mr. Huntman58 doesn't want anyone else from CA to head to Idaho..........

I came here from Sacramento in 1994. I left California because the leftwing has taken over the state and most local governments. You leave that place to taste freedom again.

As long as you have that mindset, Idaho is a good place for you. If you're a religion-bashing, gun-bashing, government-loving person, Idaho is not the place for you. People expect you to be a grown-up here. Boise is about lost but the rest of the state, especially Eastern Idaho is still a great place to live.

Could some of you who've bought houses in ID in the recent past educate us a bit on closing costs to expect in ID?

Thanks

I have seen a lot of offers to buy a house, that included a stipulation that the seller was to pay $1500 to $3000 of closing cost. And they were accepted. Also, some sellers are offering the same thing in their listings.
