I don't know Pokey well enough to make any suggestions other than the general ones. Do you bowl? What are your interests? If you can find a club or just a group of people that share your interests it might be worth the time to join up with them.

You don't say what your interests are, but common winter social activities are bowling or other sports leagues, learn to skiing or snowboard at Pebble Creek, etc. There is a relatively inexpensive program to take a class to learn to ski or snowboard through ISU. I'd also suggest getting some good winter clothing and finding ways to enjoy being outside in the winter. Snowshoeing and cross country skiing are good ways to get outdoor in the winter and enjoy nature.

Since you are at ISU I'd suggest finding a student organization or joining an intramural sports team that matches your interests to find like-minded people. There are several active and fun groups of people and most aren't exclusive to students. If you let me know your interests and I could probably suggest specific groups to check out.

Ive lived in Pocatello off and on for the last 9 years and Im going to be honest, there really isn't much to do in the winter time if your not into winter sports. At ISU there is the movie theater that has free movies for students, the bowling alley that is really cheap, the pool tables, the arcade, etc. boring really. Getting a job for the short time your not in school and doing homework will help you meet more people and get out of the house for a few hours. Volunteering at the animal shelter (they always need people to walk the dogs), going to a church (First Baptist and Calvary are good ones if you don't have a church preference), and as someone posted before, finding a club at ISU is a great way to occupy your time and meet new people. I know that at the beginning of each semester theres always recruitment going on either in the quad or in the SUB so be on the look out for those. Oh and one last thing, since your 21, check out the dance clubs once or twice a month. That gets old real quick if you do it more than that but its fun to do it once in a while.

Cool Lots of Good Ideas

There seem like some really good tips here, almumoha. Lots of college campses have cheaper things to do as has been mentioned.

Service projects, regardless of whether they are with a church, a social service agency or community - at large group, can be a marvelous way to meet new people who may share similar interests. Besides, most people feel a lot better about themselves after they have helped another.

Also, you may want to check out the bus between ISU -Poky and Idaho Falls. No one says you can't start your ride in Pocatello and be in Idaho Falls. That is assuming you don't have transporation. If you do, then you can go whenever.

Driving 50 miles can also give one not only a change of scenery, but often time to think about concerns. Who knows who you might meet at B & N or coffee shops in Idaho Falls you may not have expierenced previously.

Let us know what works for you. I don't think you'll get a lot more ideas than those offered as I think they are all quite solid, IMHO!

Tried to rep you Twin Prism, but couldn't. Many good suggestions. The clubs/activities/service others mentioned I also think are good options.

Plus, depending on your major, is there anything you want to be doing as a sub-intern or something along those lines to prepare yourself for a job opportunity when you complete school?

Good luck. I'm sure you'll find what is right for you. You could always write an ISU forum here and update it daily about what is offered at each ISU campus etc.
