Are you seeing any businesses in your area close? When I was at the mall last week, a place I rarely go, I noticed that Corral West was closing along with Lady Foot Locker and one more that escapes me right now. We just recently lost Linen and Things in the extension of the mall.
We are however getting some new places; Taco John's and Red Robin to name a few.

Not to detract from Cleosmom's question, just to clarify. I thought Linen and Things closed throughout the U.S. Did they just file for bancrupcy with a plan to reopen? I know the Idaho Falls was one of the 25% closed about 2 months earlier than others.
Could be I haven't followed Linens and Things closely enough after I heard the national annoucement.
Red Robin had been on the radar to be built for a while.
One major problem in Idaho Falls, and eastern ID, is the collapse of the Arkansas National Bank much earlier than we saw the national economic downturn. I don't know the exact number, but have been told many businesses ready to build didn't, or haven't yet, due to ANB. This is also true for the Driggs/Victor area.
I believe some businesses are closing and some are opening or expanding. A change in the economy causes certain business needs. If they aren't currently being met, then opportunity knocks.
What bothers me are businesses who say they are going out of business to clean out inventory. Then maybe they move 2 spots down in the mall for better positioning. I see that very differently than a business who truly can no longer be open due to inability to make a profit.
Cleosmom, in service businesses such as where you are, is your volume down? Don't say if you can't.
If others can, share general info from your areas of work. Perhaps there are hiring freezes instead of layoffs, or maybe no raises etc. What are you seeing?
