It was a nice ride for the past 10 years. Everyone had a job, everyone was cashing in on their homes. The chickens are coming home to roost, and the house-of-cards economy we've built and fooled ourselves with has crumbled.

I just heard on KTVB that Adams County had 1 of 5 of their residents looking for a job. That's 20% unemployment. I wouldn't doubt that most other rural counties are in similar throws. And it's getting just as bad in many of the cities.

You just can't have an economy built on real estate and tourism. Ask Avimor how their homes sales have been.
I agree. I believe a lot of the previous GDP growth was simply consumers buying products with home equity. With that said this is nothing unique to Idaho.

The only two states that lost population were Michigan and Rhode Island.

These are unprecedented times....unemployment is high and the economy has slowed, so for obvious reasons people are going to leave, not sure why that seems like a mystery?? If people are having trouble finding work, they're going to move if they find an opportunity elsewhere.
This article pretty much sums it up. Domestic migration 12700 to Idaho.

He usually talks to them at the gas station and that is the reason they give him. I think so far he has told me of twenty people saying what I said above. They also told him that the californians don't like people from Idaho and they have gotten the finger for the Idaho plates. And had comments made to them about being a racist from Idaho. I feel for them they get it coming and going lol.. Tough place to be...

That's funny, because I consider Californians(of which I am) to be some of the most race oriented social groups in the country. I don't see race like they do even though I am technically a Californian, but I sure have it thrown in my face on a daily basis.

[MOD CUT] The shows usually focus in on Idaho as the haven for hate groups of all kinds. It's sad..that 1/10th of 1 percent of the population of Idaho(if that) is the only group shown on national television programs. I blame the History Channel and 60 Minutes. :P

Classic! A whole society of people pretending to be racist just to keep more people from moving there. lol Hey, there are reasons why I don't live in certain neighborhoods in Sacramento and it isn't because people there are only pretending they hate white people. lmao

LOL I lived in Sacramento for a year. It was sweet! Some of the best days of my life were there. It's too bad that it got so over populated so fast. The Bay Area people moving up there really changed the attitude there. They are up here too. They are the ones I complain about the most. They walk around a brag where they are from like it's a badge of honor. Then they put you down for being so red neck and you are uncultured compared to them. I find it funny when I tell them that I worked in San Fran for awhile and lived in Sac. I look like a red neck and they dress in nice clothes with nice cars. I left all that kinda living behind years ago. Chasing a dollar to feel good about yourself is a waste of time to me. And having the latest greatest thing is also not on my to do list. I grew up in Post Falls so I know the area and what it takes to survive in poor mode. You can only live high on the hog for so long. Keeping a steady job with good pay here can be tough. You have to drop your standards to adjust to living in Idaho. If you learn to do that you will be just fine. If ya think your going to make a 100k here good luck! If you find that job chances are it won't last long. You guys ever see that movie by Richard Pryor called "Moving" and they move from New Jersey to Boisie Idaho? Great show funny to watch now and see how boisie used to look like a ghost town lol

I do see a lot of houses vacant now and a lot of the contractors are leaving town too. You should be able to cash out a house really easy if you got the money now. I saw a house that sold for cheap that was a half built repo. I think there may be more out there. Times are gonna get rough around here and jobs will be a hard find. If you played your cards right and you have cash there will be more deals as we get into spring...
