Default Thinking Idaho

I'll be retiring from the military mid 2013 and we're looking into maybe settling in to Idaho. We are interested in purchasing property sooner 2010 or 2011. Our interests are hiking, camping, biking, etc-anything outdoors. We'd prefer to be near Mountain Home AFB-to make the most of my retirement. I'm in Emergency Management and my wife is in Human Resources/Public Administration. Looking for good schools, preferably private schooling. Looking for small town NE with great people and a close knit community, parks, cafe's and something Norman Rockwell might paint without the high price tag. Does anyone have any information or guidance?

Hi PatErEmm, I know that lots of people from the Mt. Home AFB actually live in Boise/Meridian area and commute to Mt. Home (about 45 min. away) You get good schools (private, public, magnet, charter) nice recreation areas, parks, restaurants..and you get the close-knit community.

Moutain Home is not even a 2-horse town...it's a 2 cricket town. I think you'd be peeling the paint off the walls with boredom. I don't think there's anything in Mountain Home other than a gas station a Subway and the AFB...which is not exactly close to MH.

Stick with Boise. Mountain Home is well within driving distance.
