Smile An Older Article from San Deigo about FLDS in NID

I found one article with an update about the FLDS in NID. However, I think this 2005 article from the San Diego Union -Tribune adds clarity specifically to NID.

"Idaho officials studying polygamists in Bonners Ferry"

Idaho officials studying polygamists in Bonners Ferry

"The mainline Mormon church disavowed polygamy in 1890 as a condition for Utah's statehood and excommunicates members who practice or preach it. An estimated 30,000 polygamists whose beliefs are rooted in Mormonism live in Utah and parts of the Southwest, Mexico and Canada. Hildale-Colorado City's estimated 10,000 members make it the largest polygamist group in the West.

The FLDS established the border community, then known as Short Creek, in 1935. Warren Jeffs' father, Rulon, became president and prophet in 1986 at the death of longtime leader LeRoy Johnson. Rulon Jeffs died in 2002, and Warren Jeffs' became the church's leader. "

Readers will see a collection of articles easy to access from the link I posted.

Did you know the Salt Lake Tribune has a section devoted to polygamy issues? And someone might get a kick out of this pic, not to make light of the subject, just sharing from our adventures in SLC!

NCM,

Yes, to the first. I use to read that blog back when the TX children were in being removed. It got very abusive from different posters. So I stopped reading it. Since then, it appears the Trib has Brooke Adams covering the news and directing some of the discussion. Additionally, it looks like the Trib now lists the names of other sites where those who are interested may write more. The Plural Life

Who knows, potentially some of the best information about NID maybe in some of those blogs.

Brooke Adams does tell a lot of interesting information and IMHO, is civil how she does it. There is certainly a calmer feel to it that what was on it 2-3 years ago.

Now, Twitter can go nuts on the Salt Lake Tribune Home Page - Salt Lake Tribune (as it was when I was there. Warren Jeffs' attorney had to pay a fine for DUI). I guess I've found my first good use of Twitter, as people take their cheap shots on Twitter; consequently, the blogs are a little more civilized. Besides, I believe the Trib made people register to post on blogs after some of the really ugly arguments (kind words to describe what was written).

Yah, I've seen that label. I removed what I wrote next. I'm attempting to LEARN more about the current situation in NID with the FLDS. I will learn more by not confusing the issue here. Besides, I'm trying to make sure those who want to get educated about the subject in NID, know where resources exists. No reason not to know as much information as others do. If I can connect even one person at CDF in the ID thread with factual information about the FLDS so NID residents can stay on top of this situation, then I'll feel I contributed to making NID safer by alerting people, even by links, to what they should be concerned about with the FLDS.

The Allen Steed story is interesting, from an intellectual POV. Did or does he have capacity to know what he did etc? It's also very sad, and everyone who thinks first cousins should be allowed to marry should read more. Genetics don't work well that way.

Good to see your post with the reminder information is merely a keyboard away. I know that you and I do see the FLDS as a cult where children are raped and teenage girls married off to older men, against their will, plus men with more wives and "status," do change houses and have other "opportunities" given to them that those not as devout may not receive. However, I do respect the rights of others to not see FLDS as both you and I do.

Don't know about you (and am NOT asking), there was just something in the San Diego Union-Tribune link that described the clothing of the women in summer (actually, year round), that helped solidify its validity of content again for me. Others see it too. The more people are aware of what to watch for, the more they will be surprised to see, if they want to see.
