Default Commuting From Victor, ID to Jackson, WY

I have a quick question for anyone in the Jackson, Wy or Victor, Id areas...

How many people make the commute from Victor to Jackson for work?

How often does the Teton Pass close, thus causing people to miss work?

Thanks!

I've got only one thing to say--4-wheel drive. ;-)

Check out the Idaho Dept. of Transport Site:
Idaho Transportation Department - Division of Highways

Everything you will need is there including links to adjacent areas.

Keep an eye on this site for awhile to get a feel for whats up with the roads.

Looks like you'll want to watch the Teton pass Idaho Transportation Department - Division of Highways and ID-33 to the WY-22.

Default You'll want to have backup...

I've lived in Idaho for over 20 years and I'll tell you in the winter the Teton pass can be closed for a day every week sometimes. They are pretty good and opening it up, but if it's windy and snowing there isn't a whole lot you can do about it. If you can work out something that you can do from home on some days in the winter it would be best, so you don't lose a whole day's work. There are a fair number of people who do drive over there to work though.

Default Commuting to Jackson from Victor

I have lived in Victor for over 10 years and have commuted to Jackson on and off for a number of them. Wyoming DOT is really on keeping the pass cleared and will frequently bomb the pass during the night during big storms and have it cleared by commuter hour. MANY people commute nowadays. The public transit in Jackson (START bus) now runs 2 commuter buses morning and night so if you work normal day shift you can take the bus. It's GREAT. You know, part of the joy of living there is the fact that you live somewhere that the Pass CAN avalanche and you get to stay home for the day. Wahoo- head for the "ghee" and go skiing! It's not like "anywhere USA". Do you know what I mean? You live somewhere that is connected to nature. I love it. It's also a reason that not alot of people live there and that is O.K.

Default We are on our way, YIPPEEE!

Love the reply from Victormom! My son River and I are moving over to Victor. We are from Thermopolis, WY right now and every time I mention that we are moving to Victor, I get feedback from locals here on how treacherous the pass is. Well we'll see. I plan on building a lot of snowmen and skiing and skating and being cozy inside doing my homework to start my second life career as Elem. Ed. Teacher.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A SAUNA OUT THERE! IS THERE ONE WITH PUBLIC ACCESS? WHO WANTS TO OPEN A BUSINESS VENTURE WITH ME AND HAVE ONE FOR PUBLIC USE IF NOT...I AM SERIOUS.

I will miss our "worlds largest hot springs" here. Especially the free state bath house only minutes from my house in Thermop. Anyway, I am looking for friends in Victor that are into sustainable living and organic food (actually goes without saying). .....and I am so excited that you have the Teton Thai Restaurant there too. Well, the commute, I'll get used to that in time, and yes, we have four-wheel-drive, but on sheets of ice that does not help, you are still SOL. Peace and Happiness to all. Rivermom.
