HELLO TORRIE!Thank you so much for your reply! Its sounds like something that I would like! I will check it out and let you know for sure! Thanks for the link! I do not know much about the surrounding areas. I originally had thought about Montana, but it seems that no matter where you go, its expensive! I love the types of trees & mountains that you see in Idaho & Montana. I am not crazy about the desert or cactus type areas...And I love 4 distinct seasons. Anyway, I will keep you posted. Thank you, Sincerely COUNTRYLV22 ![]() |

Thank you for the idea! No, I had not looked at Rathdrum, but I will check it out! I like that its very close to CDA, from the pictures that I have seen, CDA seems very quaint & charming! And I really like that! Thanks a bunch! Sincerely, COUNTRYLV22 ![]() |

Many nice places are within an hour of Spokane and CDA, and most of north Idaho is within two hours, so that part shouldn't be a problem.
I recommend you check out the areas that surround Sandpoint. Finding acreage just outside of town (Dover, Ponderay, and Sagle) shouldn't be too hard. Priest River is worth a look, as is Newport Washington (right on the state line, an hour north of Spokane). Newport has a movie theater (family owned, restored old place, tickets are $4 and popcorn is $1) and a nice little downtown area. Metalline Falls in northeastern Washington is gorgeous and may fit the bill as well. Out of all the places I mentioned, Sandpoint has the best restaurants. It's smaller than Coeur d'Alene but I think it has a similar feel to it. I have heard that comparable land is cheaper on the Washington side of our area (Pend Orielle county WA, next to Bonner county ID), but I haven't looked into it. Best of luck to you in your search! |

Well, we have that. As I type this on April 1 at 0830 local time, it is 36 degrees outside and partly cloudy but at least it isn't raining...at the moment.
Actually, the seasons here go like this for the most part: Winter: Cold but not bitter cold like Minnesota or someplace like that--just normal winter time coldness; 20's-30's. Although it can dip into the bitter cold range but that doesn't usually last long. Not a huge snowfall usually, but it can and does happen occasionally. A ton of places to ski within a short drive if you like that type of thing. Spring: Cold rain. Then sometimes it gets nice for a few days to get us psyched for summer, then it gets cold and rains some more. From March-June you never know what you're gonna get. Sometimes it reaches 70's in April and sometimes it's 50 and raining on the fourth of July. Summer: Short and hot. Not Arizona hot, nice hot. We had quite a few days over 90 last year but it was unusually warm. Way too short for me though. Summer like weather that you can count on is really only July and August and maybe a little of September if we get lucky. Other months have nice days too, but there is really only a few weeks a year when you can bet on it being sunny and warm. Summer time is when Coeur d'Alene really shines--lots of activities happening all the time throughout the summer months. I love it here then. Fall: Pleasant days, cool nights, generally. Again though, might be sunny, might rain. Might be nice and warm, might be cold. I think that covers it. We have nice seasons here but during the year it is cold more than hot and cloudy at least as often as it is sunny, if not more. It rains here, mostly in the spring and fall--not as much as Seattle but it does rain. Still, it sounds like you're tired of living on the face of the sun, so the coolness will probably be a welcome change for you. This is Idaho...we like hunting, fishing, four wheel drives and guns. Coming from AZ, you'll fit right in! (except maybe the hunting/fishing part but you'll get the hang of it) ![]() *edit* I see that it is deem that lives in AZ, not the original poster. Sorry 'bout that! |

What is the ice fishing like? That's one of my husband's stipulations on where we move.

TO TARL CABOT:
HELLO TARL CABOT! Thank you for your reply! Yes, I am looking for something inexpensive, yet with a nice small town feel, family owned places like you mentioned, and somewhat close to a larger city (1 hour or 2), so there is a good HOSPITAL FACILITY, just in case. I will check out the places you listed. Thank you so much! COUNTRYLV22 |

TO BUFFALO HEAD:
HEllO BUFFALO HEAD! Thank you so much for your response! I appreciate all of the detail, that helps me out a lot! I have been to Arizona in the past, and I cannot stand too much HEAT! Whether it comes along with or without humidity! :0((( What you described sounds to be like my cup of tea!! I would also like to be able to have a garden of some type, I hope that is possible as well! THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!!! :0) COUNTRYLV22 |

You will definitely be able to garden in this area, lots of people do. I think the season is a bit on the short side though. If gardening is your passion, you might want to check out the "banana belt" areas of Idaho, like Lewiston. |
