Depends on what you are looking for. The Tri-Cities is not depressing in my opinion, as it is the retail hub of the Seattle/Spokane/Portland triangle. The only other sizeable area is Yakima, but crime is higher and business is not as favorable as Tri-Cities. BTW, I personally wouldn't worry about Hanford...the chances of a major disaster there are probably less than getting hit by lightning. Smaller towns, Moses Lake, Walla Walla, Pendleton,etc. are nice, but quite smallish with little retail and still have a very agricultural mentalitiy, not that there is anything wrong with that. Bend/Redmond, OR is the fastest growing, but has become very expensive.

Westside communities that still have not become overpopulated include places like Roseburg, OR, Longview/Kelso, WA, Centrailia/Chehalis, WA, and even Bellingham, WA, (with the latter quickly changing...get in soon!)
