Private School Recommendation - Coeur d'Alene or Post Falls
We relocated to Post Falls in January and I am VERY unhappy with the public elementary schools here. We are looking for private school recommendations. The thing is, we are not church goers. I don't have a problem with a religiously affiliated school but do not want that to be the center of my child's education.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

The only decent private schools I know of are in Spokane. I wish there was something good in Sandpoint that went from K-12 but there are no upper level private schools, other than a few Christian schools.
This is why I homeschool.

Why are you unhappy with public school?
We are considering relocation and have three elementary age children. Where are your children attending school and why are you unhappy?
Thanks!

In researching schools around CDA and north of there, everyone I spoke with who attended Rathdrum's schools seemed to speak highly of them. I'd love to hear more on this subject myself, but it seems school threads never get much in the way of replies.

Sorry...missed this earlier. We live near Priest Lake and my kids attended Priest River schools, which would be (I imagine) far worse than CDA schools.
By the way, we came from Arizona also...Phoenix area.

We don't have kids, but pay taxes so I would be interested in why you are VERY unhappy with the public schools.

The public schools here have a curriculum focused solely on language arts and math. My 3rd grade daughters day is 3/4 language arts and 1/4 math for the day. There is no social studies or science in the curriculum. The teacher tries to fit in a bit when she can. I have tried contacting the school principle and the school board with no luck as to an explanation of this. Her teacher says its a new curriculum this year in response to the "No child left behind" laws. I have a major problem with this. I believe Social Studies and Science are core subjects that should be included (and were in Maryland) for a well rounded education. My daughter is an accelerated student in language arts as it is. She reads at an 8th grade level. So she is quite bored most of the day. This is it in a nutshell.
We have been looking for alternatives without much luck. We are not a Christian home and I do not want my children going to a christian school. The CDA schools have a better curriculum but if I do an out of district transfer over there, I'm not guaranteed that they will get a spot next year. I have applied for the Magnet School but haven't heard yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Try finding a homeschool/private school hybrid. These schools tend to individualize their curriculum and are extremely parent friendly. My children are attending one in Solana Beach, CA called The Academy Learning Center North County, but I am pretty sure this is their only location. If you live in the area, I highly recommend this school. If you are outside of CA, look into the hybrid. My kids get out at noon and have about 3 hours of work to do on Fridays- so it is only 4 days a week.
