I Somehow Missed the Deaths in MT and WY from H1N1
I'm not always a fan of MSNBC; however, I think they do a great job with their interactive maps.
This is interesting as it reports one death in WY and somehow I missed that. If someone knows more about it, please share when and where the person died (exposure does matter and many in eastern ID work in WY).
Likewise, I didn't know there had been one death in MT as well.
Check on the neighboring states closest to where you are and where the deaths occurred. There were so many infected in the Butte/Bozeman/Yellowstone area, I'd also be interested to know if anyone has further details about the person who died in MT. The death tolls in those states may be higher than you may have realized.
MT = 1 death.
NV = 10 deaths.
OR = 12 deaths.
UT = 18 deaths (highest rate per capita in the U.S.)
WA = 14 deaths.
WY = 1 death.
Map: Swine flu cases in the U.S. - Swine flu- msnbc.com
If my math is correct, that makes 56 people to die in neighboring states from the "benign" H1N1. Fortunately, no ID residents have died from this virus. Nonethless, about 5 dozen people or two classrooms of school kids died in neighboring states.
I fail to understand how some in ID don't think residents of ID aren't at risk.
Use the 6 ft. rule, cover your mouth both if you cough/sneeze or someone else does too (your elbow is usually available) and PLEASE wash your hands. I'm getting grossed out reading articles about people not even washing their hands. That is simple, doesn't pose a risk to one's body, except better hygience. PLEASE wash your hands, if you haven't been.
Stay aware of the news information currently, as a lot is being announced.

Nice article
I would have to agree that there is certainly the possibility that the virus can continue to be spread after the fever has dissipated. Since the virus feels very at home in deep lung tissue (rare for flu), it makes sense that it can still be spread through cough. I would wager that although all other symptoms may be gone in a person, if there is still a cough, the virus is still present. Probably the last and most difficult area of the body for the virus to be eradicated from.
As for getting the shot when it becomes available in October/November, not interested. If all the other states want to get on board with Massachuchets in passing legislation to allow civil officers into homes against the will of residents to "encourage" getting the shot.... there is just something wrong with that idea. Washington, Iowa, North Carolina, and I think Florida are next to vote on that issue. A similar law goes into effect in France on the 28th of this month, but isn't being announced until the 30th I think.
There is a difference between my government encouraging me to take medicine and kicking down my door to give it to me when I don't want it. Oh well, I know how to camp and stay out of sight.
Sorry if I sound like one of those crack pots... just how I feel about the vaccine.

What Do You Think About This Vaccine Idea?
Here is some new news about one of the vaccines being made for H1N1....
From Reuters
"In Vitro Study of Adamas Pharmaceuticals' Triple Combination Antiviral Drug Therapy..."
" Adamas' TCAD therapy consists of a proprietary fixed-dose combination drug
product (amantadine and ribavirin), to be administered adjunctively with a
neuraminidase inhibitor such as Tamiflu (oseltamivir phosphate, Roche). In
this study, using a scientifically accepted in vitro infection model,
researchers compared amantadine, ribavirin, and oseltamivir alone and in
combination against influenza A viruses that are resistant to either
oseltamivir or amantadine, including novel A/H1N1."

I'm interested to know what anyone thinks of this article, if they read it.

Did a quick search and I do believe I have your answer

CHEYENNE - A 21-year-old woman from Fremont County has become the first Wyoming resident to die from swine flu, state health officials said Wednesday.
The woman, who died this week, had an underlying health condition that increased her risk of having complications from influenza, Wyoming Department of Health spokeswoman Kim Deti said. Deti would not release details about the woman's residence in Fremont County or the nature of her underlying health problems.

Lee,
I totally agree about being forced to have a vaccine vs. wanting it. Well stated.

Thanks cleosmom! I haven't had the time this week to look. It helps to know where people who were hospitalized and/or died were due to exposure issues.

Cleosmom,
PLEASE make sure the pregnant woman knows she is at greater risk, based on what I posted her probably in Aug. from the FL OBs who had many pregnant women infected with H1N1. If needed, they can always read the many posts in this thread, or get information from credible sources.
I'll be thinking especially of her, as well as your nephew, that it is early enough in the year their infections will be more mild.
Yes, I agree, it was time to finally go public with the District 93 story! Let's wait for the ripple effect in about 10-14 days.
Thanks Western Gal, Cleosmom, and aulidur for being vigilent and showing this is also an Idaho issue too.
Everyone, remember to wash your hands and take care of yourself and those you love.
