AlwaysLooking is on a distinguished road
my daughter has it; she goes to college in Spokane. On Sunday night her temperature wouldn't stop climbing and someone from the health center was smart enough to get her to the hospital when it got to 105. She spent the night in the ER but is now back in her dorm sleeping most of the last 2 days. She is taking Tamiflu; so far so good.

It seems that college towns are where the flu is spreading rapidly right now; same thing is happening down here. Good thing your daughter was taken to the hospital for treatment! Best wishes for her speedy recovery!

Here's a good article from today about how we need to view the H1N1 in the proper perspective--not that we haven't done that here on this thread! I think we can be proud of adopting the best approach ever since last spring: cautious, sensible alert, but no panic. (Thanks, MSR!)

Question How Do You, as HER MOM, Feel about Her 105 Fever?

AlwaysLooking,

Sounds like your daughter goes to Gonzaga. Are you aware there were some deaths in Spokane since the outbreak? Not try to scare you in the least, just asking you to be MOM.

As her MOM, how do you feel about her 105 temp? Any updates of what her temp is recently? I'd encourage you to talk to your own physician to know of how to help your daughter from afar. Absolutely, I'd encourage you to have your daughter (or roommates, church members or someone who cares about your daughter) make sure her temp. is being monitored. Obviously, that is your choice, but not many humans feel great at 105F.

Post again with an update when you know more. Sleeping does happen A LOT with H1N1. Hopefully, with her Tamiflu and staying home your daughter will have an uneventful recovery.

I also hope as MOM you know when to intervene, how to not worry too much, but continue doing just what you are doing - - trying to learn more. Search the CDC or other reputable sources for additional information. If you know which hospital your daughter was treated at, you may want to see if they have posted anything on their website regarding H1N1 symptoms and care. Also, I wish for you to trust your gut as her mom, and for YOU to sleep and stay well.

Best of wishes to you and your daughter (I hope her roommates are being treated regardless of symptoms).

CFF,

Thanks for the props. It's a good day for them.

I have three new theories about H1N1, but don't wish to post them openly as they are merely my observations or deductive reasoning.

May I ask you to help me with something? If I send you a DM with my three theories/observations, will you keep that DM so if the day comes I'm right in patterns I've seen (one of which I've already shared with you), I will have someone else able to produce what I thought instead of just me?

It's ok if you don't want to be involved, I can ask others. Really, feel free to say not a good time or whatever. Just thought I'd give you a chance, if you wanted. It's not an intellectual property issue, or maybe it is, I just opt not to share theses observations with all at this point for various reasons. A good pulmonogist yes in a couple of days, when I am able to link a couple more things together.

Thanks-

MSR

Regardless of your decision, please keep posting. You sum a lot of things up nicely for many who read from multiple states.

Exclamation First Vaccine for H1N1 -Nasal Spray

New info out about the vaccine and how many "doses" one must get, as well as by what means (injection or inhalation).

Wow - not sure how I feel about this:

" The nasal spray is approved for ages 2 to 49. Because it contains live flu virus, it's not recommended for some of the people at most risk from severe swine flu complications. That includes pregnant women, children younger than 2, and people with asthma and other chronic respiratory diseases.

Check out the rest of the information and the links at CDC:

CDC: First swine flu vaccines will be nasal spray - Swine flu- msnbc.com

Take care, be aware and prepare for all things H1N1, including information about vaccinations.

Lightbulb The Pocaatello Police Are Preparing for H1N1....

This is an interesting article. A group of people some of us don't think of as "First Responders," but they are in so many bad situation and maintain crow control etc. in other events.

I'm glad to see the local press starting to do more of their own articles instead of relying upon the AP or other.

"Preventing Spread of Swine Flu in Pocatello"

"Inside the Pocatello Police Department, hand sanitizer stations have been put up on the walls. They are just one of many departments in the Gate City making an effort to prevent the spread of the H1N1 virus. Good, it is nice to know at least someone is lessoning and taking steps to protect their workers.

Lightbulb Good List of H1N1 Symptoms.......

This is a good basic article about H1N1 symptoms and what people are doing to relieve them. For those who wonder how this flu feels or what is different, maybe some of this will help.

" Two Cases of H1N1 Virus Surface In Madison County "

" 'We know that H1N1 flu is now in our communities and we expect to see cases continue to increase over the coming months," stated Richard Horne, Director of Eastern Idaho Public Health District." " 'The biggest thing people can do to help prevent the spread of the illness is to stay home when they are sick. They should also practice good hygiene by washing their hands frequently and covering their coughs and sneezes." '

Ah, what I have been preaching here? Even posted videos about handwashing and asking people to stay home (or keep their kids home) if they are sick.

Need another reminder of the symptoms and who is most at risk for complication with H1N1?

"However, certain people are at high risk for serious complications from H1N1, including:

Pregnant women

Children and young adults between the ages of 6 months and 24 years

Adults between the ages of 25-64 years with medical conditions associated with higher risk of complications due to flu

If you become ill and have these emergency warning signs, you should call your health care provider immediately:

Fast breathing or trouble breathing

Bluish or gray skin color

Not drinking enough fluids

Not urinating or no tears when crying

Severe or persistent vomiting

Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath

Being very sleepy or confused, not waking up or interacting

Being so irritable that nothing makes the child feel better

Pain or pressure in the chest or stomach area

Sudden dizziness

Confusion

Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and more severe cough
"

This article is worth the read, IMHO Those are some very specific symptoms listed.

Good work KIFI!
