The newly opened Idaho Fry Co. on Broadway in Boise has some pretty excellent burgers...

You know, the best burger I've ever had, anywhere, was at the Edgewater in Sandpoint last summer! And the 2nd best was at Eichardt's on Cedar St.! So that's where you'll find me, from time to time, if only in my dreams... We have In 'n Out down here, and I don't think they're worth the hype. Haven't tried Sonic yet. We're still looking for the perfect SoCal burger place...we used to have a Sluggo's a block away, and they were gooood...

The meat should be fresh (never frozen), the patty hand-formed, the lettuce and tomato toppings cold and fresh, and the bun should not be from last week.
I don't travel the state as much as I used to, so I'm not wise to what cook or other burger stop personnel are good or bad. One exception to that. My doctor is in Coeur d'Alene, so when I'm down that way I often stop at the Office Tavern for a burger lunch. The barmaid there is cute and personable!
I've had the In 'N Out burger, a California-based, family-owned operation with shops in California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. They're okay. In fact, there's a big push on right now to locate one of their stores in Boise, their first one in Idaho. They are not my favorite California chain, however. I like California's FatBurger, an unlikely and unappealing name for a pretty fair burger joint.
I was just curious if some of our Idaho posters had a favorite, out-of-the-way, mom and pop, one-of-a-kind burger purveyor. When I do travel around, I like to have an idea of where to get my necessary hamburger "fix".

Fatburger has been in Washington State for a number of years now. I have not visited. Is it worth it?

If I am in the mood for a burger and am on the road I prefer Burger King. In-n-Out is somewhat over rated IMO. Not a Sonic or Arctic Circle fan either.
My favorite is to grab some Spade-L from the butcher block at Albertson's and mix it right into the meat and either grill it outside or on the George Foreman.
As for the locally owned, Blue Wave or Scotty's Drive-in.

In Boise check out Chandlers Steakhouse in Hotel 43 downtown. The meat is locally raised grass fed Kobe beef and blows a place, a chain such as In 'n Out out of the water.
I find it assuring to know where the meat I am eating comes from.
In fact there are several restaurants around Boise that offer hamburgers made from beef raised at local organic farms.
Now I am hungry

Check "Scotty's" on Northgate mile in IF. Not perfection, but close.

Hi pw72,
Good to see you here again.
Check the website for In'n Out again (I might be spelling it wrong) for future locations. Or, check the UT forum. I think there are 2-3 separate threads about the eatery.
Locations in Draper, West Jordan and one place - seems like American Fork, but I can't remember for sure right now- are opening in the Salt Lake City Metro area. Or, some may even be open by now.

Best burgers in Idaho? Has to be Grumpy’s in Ketchum. IMO, could be the best burgers in the west.

Hell yes, great burgers and fries, cheap microbrews and the best fry cooks in the city.
In n' Out is way overrated, I hope I never see one in Boise, Boo to chains.

Did someone say there were In 'n Out's in metro Salt Lake? Hmm. Their website does not show that. I did hear a story awhile back that someone was trying to copy the concept in SLC though. The real In 'n Out doesn't like that very much.
