dakota79 is on a distinguished road
Default Lewiston or Twin Falls

I am in a unique situation, and am trying to decide between Lewiston and Twin Falls. But I have concerns about one, and the other would be more of a risk. So here's the scoop:

I have an eye condition which prevents me driving. I walk most of the time, and occasionally use public transit or taxis. I have income from disability benefits for being legally blind, and can work part time, mostly in retail is where I seem to do well. I am basically on a fixed income.

One of the biggest barriers for me has been weather. I have most recently lived in Kentucky and North Dakota. KY had way too much rain and thunderstorms, and N.D. was too bitterly cold and too much snow. So my quest for weather that would work for me has landed on Idaho or maybe SE Washington. These areas receive small amounts of both rain and snow, and the temps are moderate, even in winter. They both seem to have apartments in my range, under $550 a month. And they both seem walker friendly. By the way, Boise is too big for me, and even Idaho Falls is becoming that way.

So I have visited both Twin Falls and Lewiston, and feel both will work for me. But here is where things stand. I currently work for a retail chain, and we have a store in Twin Falls that I could transfer to. My main worry about Twin Falls is the LDS factor. I have read some bad things and don't know what to think. I have a lot of respect for the LDS Church, and my clean, conservative lifestyle almost resembles theirs. But I am strong in my own Christian faith. I am worried about treatment in the workplace. What if my boss is LDS and has an issue with me not being? They could make things difficult. It's easy to say report it as discrimination, but I don't want to even have to deal with such a problem. Also, I don't know if I can get past always wondering if someone who is being nice to me actually has a secert motive of conveting me.

As for Lewiston, my company does not have a store there. So if I choose Lewiston, it would mean quitting my part-time job of 7 years. I, of course, would still have an income from my disability to pay for rent, food, and utilities, but would still need to find something to give me a little spending money. I really love the area, but it is a risk. Do you think I would be able to find a part-time retail job or maybe one at a motel, something I also have experience in?

If you were me, which would you choose? Or do you have any other suggestions?

I would think Twin would be good as far as I know the LDS is there but not like say Rexburg. We know many people that live in Twin and are not LDS. It is also thriving,... well until the recession hit. It is centrally located too.
