DesertRyder -

You'll be pleased to hear that I've spent every weekend for the past 2 months out riding the mountains and deserts of Southern Idaho.

These past few weekends have been ABSOLUTELY PERFECT for riding. Perfect cool weather, perfect soil as we've been getting week rains and clear and sunny weekend days.

Man that sounds so good.
Thanks you for the Desert update.
We could be up there on Thanksgiving day.
Hope to get some winter desert rides in myself.
Thanks Boisefan. I had to put fuel stableizer in my dirt bikes we havent ridden in so long.
Expect that to change very soon.

Ugh... the funny thing is your so happy to not live in a state that is like little mexico and us Idahoens are pissed off that our state is becoming into a little California.

Calfornians move to Idaho, and try to turn it into a hippy state. They move in next to the race track, then try to shut down the race track because it is so noisy at night... Idiots.

Uh no, I'm moving for the same reasons but I'm gonna build my own race track, which you can't do in most of SoCal even on your own property.

Wow. This is rather a constant stream of hyperbole.

Here's a thought for you...

Most people I run into in North Idaho came from California over the past 30 years for just about the same reasons Idaho is a great place. Hunting, fishing, hiking, skiing, wide open spaces, live and let live mindset, low govt intrusion, etc.

Of those people we know who came from California, they seem to be very proactive in this area NOT turning into mini-California.

Interestingly, the most liberal people we know came here from Washington state, or from other parts of the Pacific Northwest, NOT from California.

I freely admit that I can only speak from my own anecdotal experiences...but my experience is that most people who come from California come here (TO NORTH IDAHO) for what the majority of us here on CDF would call the "right" reasons. About Boise and South/East Idaho?...to that I cannot comment....

Well I am speaking in regards to North Idaho (CD'A/Rathdrum/Stateline Specifically).

I grew up here, so you may not notice the change, and going right of far left... doesn't make it right. I am not saying its horrible, but the more and more Californians come to Idaho, the more and more I see the culture and land get raped. Hell... we hardly even have farm land left... You have to go WAAY out of town to see a real farm outside of the few in Rathdrum

I hear ya but let me put it to you this way. They don't care about you liking your town the way it was they see it as place that needs to be fixed up. People who have actually lived here cannot afford a new house at the wages that people are willing to pay you to work. I know I deal with them everyday in my line of work. And radio commercials telling people that they can take advantage of the sub contractors right now because there is less work out there do not help. The construction industry is saturated with people willing to work so that pushes wages down. If you move here with money in your pocket your ok. If you try to live like those who move here with money good luck. Been trying to catch up for 25 years has not happened yet.

What people don't seem to get is we were fine being low wage until the prices of everything jumped sky high. Now we are poorer than we started. It's a sign of society today I am getting mine too bad for you is what I am hearing. With a side of I'm not like that don't judge me I am different. It's not right or wrong it just is. I hate it but I have no control over it. Just remember we actually got to live in North Idaho and ride our horses to school and our dirt bikes and snow mobiles. We were the majority now we are being pushed back into the shadows of society. The North Idaho losers who won't fit in. Because we were raised North Idaho and forever will be no matter where we are....

Somebody mentioned or expressed (in this thread), dismay at how Idaho has changed due to the influx of people and growing population. (I'm searching these boards for some tidbits about IF). I can understand this sentiment. I moved from a street in the Silicon Valley of CA - that used to be a walnut orchard (no sidewalks, no street lamps, old ranch homes). That area changed radically. I moved to the Sacramento Valley and then into the hills of CA. Again, more change. More housing, people, big schools, traffic jams, shopping malls. It was incredible. The pace was so accelerated I was depressed. I left that area with two kids and went to Dayton NV. Booming too, but I was tired of searching and wanted to stay near family.

I bought a decent place and tried to assimilate into the community slowly.

But, something happened. The housing market crashed and jobs disappeared, businesses died, development projects went bankrupt and the sagebrush started taking back the land. Now it's peaceful, rough around the edges, somewhat forgotten about, population is on a slow decline. There are both negatives and positives. I can go out and walk the dog in the middle of the street near my house and never encounter a car. I can go outside and hear nothing except some birds and wind. It's nice to recognize faces at the grocery store. I don't have to get fancied up to go out to dinner. The spreading disease of housing tracks stopped.

But - there are no decent schools. Colleges in Reno are mostly unacceptable for one of my children. I'd like to bike to some stores and not get killed on the highway. I have a love hate relationship with the local grocery store. Roads need repairing. No hospital or really any decent medical services.

So, population influx or decline has positives and negatives. I've only mentioned a few. Wherever I end up - I'm not trying to move in and destroy the community. My kids are home schooled and not part of a gang. I pick up my dog's poop no matter where he goes. I'm not looking to buy a mansion and jack prices - just a little place to call home. Not going to try and change local politics, but watch and learn. There is no perfect place anymore. And if there was - I wouldn't move there. Somethings I can live with - and somethings I just can't. That's what drives me to move.

About riding bikes in Id... I understand Mike Metzger recently sold his place in the next town over from my old place in Slow Cal. to live in Coeur d'Alene... Pretty ironic, and shows how bad Kali is getting... Cant ride a bike there anymore unless you follow SUPER STUPID rules, or lose your bike..
Here people ride thier bikes/ATV's pretty much anywhere they want... Im from Kali, but will fight tooth and nail to keep it that way in Id..... Bash people from Commiefornia all you want but we arent ALL that lame, and will most likely fight harder than the Id. natives to preserve the freedoms we have already been stripped of in that miserable land down south...
