Question Weather and Jobs

Hi,

I am looking to relocate from Syracuse, NY and I have a few questions.

1) How is the winter compared to Upstate New York? for those familiar
2) How is the humidity?
3) How is the job market? (recent grad w/ B.S. in Economics)
4) Anyone with health issues---did yours improve or get worse?

Anything else that you consider valuable in knowing about Idaho -feel free to share

Thanks for reading the post-any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Hello legacy0133,

Your questions about weather need location specifics....generally, the climate is milder in Southern Idaho, and harsher in Northern Idaho. I'm familiar with the Finger Lakes area of upstate New York, and I would compare it to Northern Idaho. What part of Idaho are you thinking about?

Your employment question is not answered easily, either. These are difficult job times across the country and Idaho is no exception. At this time in the state, it appears that employment opportunities for those with academic credentials are no better than those without.

Improved or worsening health issues might also be tied to what part of the state you are considering. Specifying your issues might make it easier to answer that question.

Sorry about all the non-answers! We just need more details to be more specific.

Now that we know where in Idaho, maybe more people can help. Pimit2 is right, winters in Northern Idaho will be more severe than the winters in the Southwestern corner of the state. Average snowfall for Boise-Metro is around 21.4 inches, but last year(2007-2008) we had 31, and this year(2008-2009), I haven't heard a total yet, but I believe it was more than the average 21 inches. As far as humidity goes, it's not much of a factor......maybe if a thunderstorm roles in, but typically the air is dry, so humidity does not dominate our weather patterns.

As far as work goes, jobs can be tough to come by, just like the rest of the country. Boise is a popular place to move so there will be competition and many of us will suggest that you try hard to come with a job in hand.
