An evening in Priest River
My husband and I chose to have our weekly "date" in Priest River, rather than heading up to Hill's or into Sandpoint last night. I have to say Priest River has it's problems (read schools here) but if what's going on with the downtown area continues, it's really going to give Sandpoint (which has really dropped the ball on a growthh plan) a run for it's money.
We had dinner at the Priest River Inn, an Italian restaurant with patio seating and live music. The weather was beautiful, the area had just enough foot traffic going by and the food was terrific. Afterwards we walked to the new Noni Wine Bar. It is absolutely beautiful inside and the wine list is terrific. What a nice evening. I still can't believe it was in Priest River. I think this town really may be going places in years to come. After all, it's in a beautiful location, nestled at the foot of Gold Cup Mountain and at the confluence of the Pend Oreille and Priest Rivers.

I will be up in NID in about three weeks (another visit while waiting for my AZ home to sell...heavy sigh) and I think we'll try the Priest River Inn! Sounds wonderful! I love posts like this one, that are so descriptive of the area.

Thanks Esselcue. One thing I still love about PR is the small town friendliness, and the Priest River Inn was chock full of that. Check out the wine bar too while you're here. It's right around the corner and it has a nice list of appetizers and beer to go along with the wine list. They've mixed sophistication, coziness and comfort with north Idaho in a really pleasing way. It's only open from Thursday-Saturday right now, but they're drawing a good clientele. Maybe we'll see you there!

mistyriverranch-
How long have you lived in the Priest River area? I am trying to find someone who knew (or knows) Bud and Rose Jeffers. They lived in the PR area for many years, and I worked with them way back in 1977 and 1978. They were never the internet types so it is hard to get info about them. I haven't been back that way since the 1980s, but was hoping to find out if they are still alive.
Bud was a hydrologic technician for the U.S. Forest Service (one of the best ever) and Rose was camp cook. Bud also worked in logging, ranching, mechanics, etc. They also owned a cabin on the Selway River, one of the few that were grand-fathered when the US gov't gave the Selway a Scenic-and-Wild River designation (and condemned private land ownership).

I don't find an entry for Bud and Rose Jeffers in the telephone directory, but there are 4 other "Jeffers" listed. They would likely be related....

We've lived here only seven years and I've not heard of them. I'll ask around though.
