From your lips, er finger tips.... some folks from SE Idaho have referred to SLC as the "Mormon 500"
Since I'm a betting woman, I'd bet this post isn't here by the time I check in again

I honestly had not heard that term before, but it is pretty funny. I'm sure when your post goes, mine will too.
Not sure about how Utah drivers behave in SLC, but in Idaho, when you see someone coming up behind going 7-12 miles per hour faster than you, 5 to 1, they are sporting a skier or arches plate from the south. (Part of me kinda wishes one of our ISP cars are just down the road...)

I don't see harm or offense with that...any more than the way folks drive around Waco, Texas (home to Baylor U, stalwart Southern Baptist town) can be called the "Baptist 500". It's all good fun. I dunno....any LDS folks...did that offend any of you?

Guessing I shouldn't go and buy a lottery ticket any time soon Sage as you proved me wrong Now Waco is one I've never heard put that way, but it makes since as a distant relative on my husband's side was Vance Havner down Texas way

That's why when I travel the I-15 I let one of 'em pass me and stay out there as "bear bait". However one of these days I know I'll get my just desserts for going 3-4 miles an hour over the limit, with me though I make certain I've plenty of space in front and behind me, after years of trucking I've seen way too much

Nothing is Offensive! It is a Funny Saying; Got Any More?

Cleosmom,
I think it is funny. You are very aware of other's feelings, which is almost always good. This is perhaps the first time in two years I'm shocked, yes , you think that would be deleted. How did that remark hurt, inflame or make someone feel differently about themselves?
I'm with Sage, I see NOTHING offensive about this. Good call, Sage.
Cleosmom, don't feel guilty; you've not done anything wrong.
No one I know, in any state, is offended with such a mild statement. Rather, they all thought it was funny (non-LDS and LDS), wondered why none of us had heard it before and wanted to know where I did.
In UT, during commuting time, the RADIO STATIONS call it,
" The Spaghetti Bowl," referring to one segment of I-15. Utah drivers have a little bit more sense of humor than some may think.
The real questions for me are:
1. What percentage of drivers from both UT and ID are escapees from CA, thus practicing what they learned now in different states?
2. So are the bad driver's behaviors and other non-safe driving we see from residents of either state truly by the natives of each state? Or did ID and UT inherit "problem drivers" along with everything else those who relocated? As has been stated elsewhere in the ID forum, with growth also comes problems.
CA residents are draining into UT faster than into ID. The result ends up with more people on the road in both states driving more than I think either state ever planned. It's not just CA, but looking at the raw numbers, that is the state from which most are running away. Proposals to add a 4th Congressional Seat in the House, for UT, wouldn't be happening if there weren't enough registered voters to do so.
Adding the total number who have relocated from CA and elsewhere to UT and ID only congests the roads more and increases some road rage.
3. Are ID drivers ready to hear from UT drivers say about them?
A few of us who post here have had driver's licenses in both states. That allows us to know jokes, or observe patterns of driving being both a resident and non-resident.
Be careful and good to other drivers.

I grew up near Idaho Falls and am aware of that term and I do not feel it is offensive because it is the fair and accurate truth. Honestly Utah drivers have always been bad, even before Californians started moving to Utah (and Idaho). Rural or Urban people; they are all bad in Utah with some exceptions, there are always exceptions. When I drive from Boise to visit family back in the I.F. area and merge onto I-15, I am always disgusted at the crass ignorance and rudeness of the drivers from beehive ville.
There is a strange energy or vibe in Utah and I think it wears off into their culture, attitudes, and actions which in turn results in aggressive driving.
Just a thought

You actually said what I was going to in reference to UT drivers being as such even before the large influx of CA transplants. Somewhat like out in CA and I've been all through the state, the worst drivers tend to be in the Central Valley, which is a shame as I used to live there
Here in IF I always dread going to Fred Meyers, I have no idea why, but that parking seems to cause a lot of folks to lose their brain cells... hmm okay drifting off topic here, sorry.

I tend to fall back on cruise control, keeping it at the posted speed unless conditions require doing otherwise, for exaMple "going with the flow of traffic." That way I don't need to spend tiMe worrying about evading a ticket, and can enjoy the drive and the scenery.
