Post June - Sept. 2009, Activities in Idaho Falls

Due to some technical difficulties, a few posts couldn't be posted under the top 10 things to do in Idaho Falls.

At the risk of offending someone, I do not believe at least three posts were anything but SPAM.

So rather than letting others ruin what some depend on to get information, I'm starting category so we can post activities happening this summer.

I'd already posted the in-process River Rocks Painting. It started yesterday and will end tomorrow. If one has further questions, there is a link on the old thread (hopefully, it will still be here and usable) to the Idaho Falls Arts Council: Idaho Falls Arts Council.

Thumbs up Taste of Idaho combined with River-City Cook Off in Idaho Falls

The sixth annual taste of Idaho i TODAY! It seems like it was weeks away and not it is here.

Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce

The event this year will be a little different than in previous years. About 25 restaurants will be serving food and other specialties. Additionally, this year the first River City Cook-Off featuring BBQ and grilling cook-off, done by teams of individuals, not restuarants, is being added. We'll see how those who visit this event like it compared to the restaurants.

If you attend, let us know what was new as there are other things I haven't listed and what you liked.

BTW - the event is being moved this year. The River City Cook-Off/Taste of Idaho are being held at Snake River Landing: snakeriverlanding.com/news/tag/idaho-falls-chamber-of-commerce/

Have a big appetite for food and fun if you go!

Idaho raised is on a distinguished road
The Idaho Falls magazine has put out a special summer separate issue detailing all kinds of events going on this summer. It's priceless, pick up a copy. I didn't know about half of it until I read the magazine.

Cool Battle of Bands: Aug. 8, 2009. Get your applications in!

For those who are interested in the annual Battle of the Bands in Aug. I saw the annoucement today that only 15 bands will be participating. If you have a band you think can beat others, or you want to let residents hear your music or other reasons, get your applications in ASAP.

I believe the date of the Battle of the Bands is 08/08/09 - starting in the afternoon.

I always look forward to this event. I hope we have good contestants and positive public response. We need to have more bands in this area. The talent is in the area. I'd love to see more eastern ID bands continue on to put CDs even online, such as MySpace or other.

I believe the winners get $1,000 in equipment from Mike Music. Great gift for musicians who are serious about improving.

Good luck to all the contestants. Give the residents of Idaho Falls and neighboring cities, a great experience hearing music from the 15 bands selected. And please have fun. Listeners have more fun when those on the stage enjoy what they are doing.

We got a free copy in the mail a couple of weeks ago. Not sure why, since I don't recall requesting it - maybe it's a newcomer thing. Really good info, especially the local restaurant coupons!

Question Maybe Vying for YOUR Talents

Breer23,

Maybe they want you to enter a microbrew contest next year. If you saw the regular Idaho Falls Magazine, they are having a series of different cook offs throughout the year. I think they sound like FUN.

So since we know a couple of employees from Harris Publishing do read comments here, maybe they saw what you said about you and your fellow grad students like to "micro-manage" (pun intended) chemicals and brews.

What about that possibility? Would you enter?

Talking 4th of July in Idaho Falls - - The Parade

As many people know, the 4th of July is a big event day in Idaho Falls. Some of these posts are also in the Top 10 things to do in Idaho Falls. Maybe cleosmom or others can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember such a fully planned day previously.

So to start things off, here is a Video posted on YouTube about the 2008 July 4th Parade in Idaho Falls. The person/people who did this condensed the parade to under 10 minutes. I think it is worthwhile watching.

YouTube - Idaho Falls 2008 4th of July Parade

Thanks to the person/people who made this video possible! It's a nice thing to do for others who couldn't attend, IMHO. It also gives a small feel for how many people are in Idaho Falls for the 4th. Some may want to log onto YouTube and leave comments.

Enjoy-
