When you talk about commuting to Spokane...perhaps you're not thinking about winter. During a heavy storm it can be nearly an hour from Spirit Lake to I-90. Last time we were in Spokane during a big snow, it was 3.5 hours home to Sandpoint from downtown Spokane (81 miles).

I'm not so much thinking about working in Spokane but rather CDA, Post Falls or even Rathdrum.

You might want to look a bit south of CdA as well.. We bought land in Plummer near the south end of lake CdA.. Its about 30 miles to CdA on hwy 95 and about 35 or so to Spokane.. Land is less expensive if your looking for land, and less regs. taxes etc. Winters are a bit milder in the Plummer/Worley area too with an "average" snowfall of 16" a year.. Its in the Palouse and has some gorgeous scenery thats pretty unique, but as one poster said just about anywhere in North Idaho its very pretty, and you can find awesome little nooks just about anywhere within driving distance of your intended city of employment..

You just ranked those cities/towns in the order of where you most likely would find employment. I don't know what industry you are in, but Rathdrum doesn't have much besides the schools, and Post Falls doesn't have much besides fast food and Wal-Mart.

Post Falls has a new Cabela's, and Buck Knives moved there a few years ago.. Its got alot of places to eat, hotels, strip malls and what not.. I wouldnt consider it a city without jobs by any means..

Less building regulation in Bonner. Easier to get permits, etc.

David,
If you're from Spokane, I'd think you'd be aware of the massive retail/trades industry in Post Falls along the I-90 corridor between state line and 41, with thousands of jobs. You make it sound like Post Falls is about the size of a rest stop...

My apologies.
I'm new to Spokane (~ 2 months). Post Falls (its size) hasn't yet made much of an impression on me, but I don't at all dispute what you are saying.
I just finished looking over a map of PF. I spent two weeks staying just north of exit 2, and have been north of exit 7 (Wal-Mart, Del Taco ) quite a few times, but I don't think I've ever been off exit 5 at Spokane St. So, I may have really only seen the outer edges of PF, and have not yet seen its core.
Next time through, I'll stop off at exit 5 and see what you are talking about.
I may be under the wrong impression, but the OP doesn't come off as someone that would be in the retail/trade industry, which could be more of why I said there isn't "much there".

Ah. Yes, if you don't come east from there you only see the small outskirts of PF which is Cabelas and not much else. Not saying it's a booming metropolis, but the PF area would seem to offer a reasonable job market for a potential relocator.
