Needing some help. Re: Rathdrum
Yes, I currently live in California, but before you start throwing stones, I was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Idaho for a few years and my wife is from Montana originally and has lived in Oregon, Washington and Idaho also. We were transferred to Sacramento through my work and we've been down here (pretty much against our will) for two years now. We have two boys (3 and 7). We've taken a long look around us and had many a discussion about what's next. Neither of us want our kids to grow up around here. My wife and I both grew up in small towns and want our kids to have the same thing. After much research and many a discussion night, we think we might be looking seriously at Rathdrum. So far, I haven't seen anything that I don't like. The size of the town, the schools, the scenary all seem to be exactly what we're looking for. I was wondering if anyone could shoot me some of the highs/lows of this town. And lastly, I have spent the last two days trying to find some pictures of this town. Does anyone have just random pictures of Rathdrum? Downtown shots, sidestreets, the surrounding area. Anything would be great! Thank you.

I typed in McCaw Lane Rathdrum Idaho into Google maps. They you will get to the map with a picture of a street. You can click on that picture and then drag the little man up and down the streets and see it all for yourself. Sort of a virtual tour of the town.
Not sure if this link will work for you so if not try the above.
Rathdrum Idaho - Google Maps
Naw the link does not work with the picture so just type in Mccaw lane . Or make the map larger and choose another street. Enjoy it is fun.

A google image search has some pics of Rathrdrum.. A good friend of mine moved there 3 years ago.. One thing to consider if its a concern is parts of it can be in the snow belt. My friend said the first year was no problem but the last two years have been pretty rough as far as LOTS of snow..
Other than that I think it would be a great place to raise kids.. Good luck from a fellow soon to be former Californian...

If you contact a realtor or two, they will gladly send you photos too. Rathdrum is a decent little town. Just be forewarned that especially down the 41 corridor it will get built up faster and faster in coming years.

I drove through Rathdrum the other day, on hwy 53 to hwy 41.
What I saw of the town was completely shaded by tall pines, and all of the town's schools seemed to be somewhat on the main road (the road didn't seem too busy).
The town is really small, and could be considered to be one of those "blink and you'll miss it" towns.
I hope you find what you are looking for, I believe Rathdrum is slowly succumbing to the Post Fallsesque habit of allowing ugly suburban sprawl type tract homes to take over the landscape.
As for being CA'ian, you'll be in constant company of other former CA'ians in NID. Hope you enjoy North Idahfornia.

Are you going to be needing employment? Keep in mind Spirit Lake is 20 miles from I-90, and even further from jobs in Spokane/Coeur d'Alene if that's something you need to think about.
I've never been to Spirit Lake, so I can't help you there.

Yes I will. I could commute to CDA if I needed to. Doesn't seem very far away.

Yeah, it's not too bad, but I know for a fact US-95 gets clogged up some and has had a lot of construction going on recently. I can't say for sure if ID-41 gets busy or not.
When you get out to NID, you might realize you don't have to live as far as Spirit Lake, etc, it's all beautiful. There are nice and quiet nooks and crannies all over Kootenai County, including near the bigger towns. Even across the border in WA you can find some real great places.

I like Spirit Lake better than Rathdrum and Blanchard even more so...it's in Bonner Country rather than Kootenai. Less regulation.
