Default Horses in Idaho

So this is a good place to come to for trail riding beauty ...right?

Is there some parts of the state better that others for Trail riding and property with small acreage at affordable prices..or perhaps even rentals that allow pet/horse?

I have been looking at Idaho Falls, Pocatello, and Boise...I really love the panhandle area too, just concerned about work and weather.

Really would like to be able to ride off the property and find a nice trail.
Thanks!

We are horse owners and live in north Idaho but I can't imagine anywhere in this state that wouldn't be good for horses and trail riding.

I've been camping both north and south of the Magic Valley in the mountains for about sixty years. The last ten years or so, folks move in from large city areas and because of the abundance of room and fresh air many of them soon decide to buy horses and ride in the mountains where myself and others have hiked and camped for most of our lives. Many of those areas now smell like horse manure and urine instead of the evergreen trees in the area. Horse folks seem to thrive on those smells and tie there horses just as close to the camping area as possible. They apparently don't consider horse manure as waste. It is left piled where the horses deposited it to attract flies and grow smellier until the snow comes. Non-horse folks don't appreciate that.
I suggest you folks by a piece of property amongst other horse folks and ride there where you and the others can spend night and day enjoying the oderous things your pet horses produce!!!!!!!!!!

Lightbulb Lots of Horses in Eastern ID and Trails Immediately Available in the Foothills.

Eastern ID is great for horses. Much like Mistyriverranch said, I really can't think of anywhere in ID that would be bad, except maybe the most extreme part of southwestern ID next to OR/CA.

I know many who have their own stables or board horses near Idaho Falls. The foothills south of Idaho Falls are especially a popular destination. There is a race track in that area and even a DVM who limits his practice to horses only.

It's a little hard to know what to write after
62in wendell. I guess I'm glad I'm not riding horses in that area.

My experience has been that those who own pets or livestock in ID know they will have to be able to dispose of the waste. It's like knowing if one gets a pet or livestock, one will need to consult DVMs when needed instead of just letting the animals suffer with whatever is wrong. It's all part of the responsibility of ownership.

Another cool thing to do, if one has a pick-up or a horse trailer, is to take the horses to the Tetons or out to the Craters of the Moon area. Those are longer trips, but fun to look forward to. My brother just got home 2 days ago from taking his family and all of their horses to a favorite place they like to ride in the shadows of the Tetons.

Sage44, horses won't be a limiting factor for you in Idaho. Although I don't know the names of where they could board, some residents in Boise even have horses. Obviously, they don't keep them on their property. For me, I'd prefer to have them close by and care for them daily. But, that's just me.

One caveat though, given a different thread, if one lives on enough property to have horses, that person most likely won't live right in the city limits. Snow removal may be a little slower. But, 4 wheel drives and other types of vehicles still make it easy to deal with the snow in more populated areas.

Hope your search is going well.
