Default Some Local info on Idaho City

Hello tourist and People moving to here,
I am a born and raised Idaho Citian and I was lookin up some info on a town I am gona move to in a few weeks, then I looked up Idaho City and there was very limited info. So as a young (by which I mean under 40) one in town I figured I'd tell you how it is for us.

Tourists are called flatlanders due to the fact that most of you don't know how to drive.

All cops have radar guns.

Some of us like tourist some don't.

Tourists don’t anger the locals we don't mess around. If you call us hicks in a bad mannerism we will show you how hick we can be. If you are respectful you will receive the same. An eye for an eye theory I guess you would say.

We have allot of bars and churches for such a small town (this includes surrounding areas such as Clear creek, Centerville/Placerville, and off the High way "suburbia’s") this leads to very nice people and very dumb people.

You are almost lucky when your house burns down even if you don't know any one you'll probably have more things after the fire then you did before.

The snow can be hell I would suggest Robbie Creek and Wilderness Ranch areas (High way suburbia) if you don't like the snow too much. Remember if in the summer you drive on a dirt road, in the spring it will be muddy.

Low riding cars tend to be a no go. Always have chains in bad weather. 4 wheel drive will be your best friend. Ask your self before you decided to move here do I want to drive my car on this road all the time?

The Seasons are winter and summer.
A traffic jam is some 1A or other flatlander going the suggested speed limits with 5 cars behind him. Weekends are semi-busy due to campers.

Harley's Bar is the most happening but not always in a good way. If a group of guys seem to be giving you trouble, back down and leave if you have to. They are just drunk and being tough guys, usually they are very nice. Calamity’s has great breakfast, Donnas is our fast food joint even though it isn't really fast food it's still good they also have a store. Trudy's Kitchen is good on most things pricy but good, Gold mine is cheaper but they have a bar and I prefer their food. Diamond Lil's is only open in the summer and has great food and "The Money Bar" It is very neat inside.

We have a bunch of little shops around town. Candle shop, Antique shops, material shop, knife shop, Gas Station, The Idaho City Grocery, and other shops that come and go (such as the dentistry and coffee shop).

For Kids (below preteen) they are usually content with playing in the park (no playground), at the school (It has a playground), and running around the woods also swimming.

Preteens hang out around town and go swimming allot it's awesome if you can go into Boise, it's kind of like a treat. Preteens can be trouble around here just because they can, as they are every where.

Teenagers go to Boise for fun or go camping. Staying at friends houses is always happening. Because were so small if your a mom be ready to be every one of your kids friends mom as well. I have personally stayed out for 2 weeks at a time just kind of couch hoping, but I call home and let my folks know where I'm at. Teenagers get into trouble everywhere the only difference is if you do some thing bad here everyone finds out, you could be in the middle of the woods and no one is around, and you don't tell anyone, the next day it's all over school. Sad but true.

The school is ok I have befriend all my teachers because it is a small school (Large class sizes would be 40). I know all my teachers first and last names, and I know about them so it's like having an aunt or uncle as a teacher (some times you actually are related to a teacher). It can be good and it can be bad we don't have allot of cool things big schools have, but you have the pleasure of knowing everyone. New kids are either very interesting or very ignored; it depends on look and attitude. A good thing is everyone gets to play sports we are too small for tryouts.

Ok I'm done for now if you have questions or comments let me know
