Lucky you, I like the Clark Fork area. If I didn't have to deal with work I'd be looking there. There is a member or two active on the board that live in the area, I'm sure they will chime in. Lightning Creek is such a cool area-how far off Hwy 200 are you?
Hunting in the area is quite good from what I've seen. I gave the area a try last fall (south of the river), lots of sign and quite a few bulls bugling. We didn't get anything...it was a wierd season, less bugling everywhere than normal. Could be the wolf situation, I'm not sure.
What kind of 4x4 club are you looking for-ATVs or Jeep-type stuff. There is an active ATV club out of Sandpoint and 2 out of CDA. I know there is a Jeep-type club as well. Let me know and I'll get you info.
Ligntning Creek road is a nice drive. It eventually winds over to Trestle Creek. I know a bunch of the road is closed for construction this year. There also used to be a nice little cutoff road that went from Lightning Creek over into Montana-the FS closed that one as well (permanently) this year. Lots of access is being lost as the FS closes roads in the area. There are still lots of FS roads open on the south side of the river. The CF area puts you in the middle of some of the nicest areas, go east along the High Drive (runs along the ID-MT border), run into Spoin Kop for an awesome view and come back via Jordon Camp, it's a really nice ride. You can get to CDA or Wallace and not hit pavement without difficulty. Most of this is FS road...you have to look for the fun stuff!
People in the area are very friendly and helpful. Just loose the Obama sticker first . As a hunter and 4x4er you'll love it! There is a great little archery shop in CF, if you toss sticks.
When do you make the move?

Lightning Creek can be good fishing, but has unusual regulations. It is closed to fishing from April 1 through August 31 this year. There's no limit for Rainbow Trout, but other Trout species have a catch limit of 2 per day.

Hi new fellow Clark Forkian! Hi everybody! I'm back after 6 weeks in Europe. Missed you guys! Good to be back! It'll take me a while to catch up! LedZeppy, you bought 5 acres in the most beautiful area in the world . Congratulations! Have fun catching up on the threads here, and check out the pics. We bought 5 acres south of the fish hatchery last year. No house on the property yet, except in my dreams...
Everybody we've met there couldn't be friendlier--like here on CDF . When are you moving?

Hehheh...the local scuttlebutt (at least among the teenagers at rival highschools) is that Clark Fork is where all the cousins marry. Or to be short: Inbred. 'Course, there's a little bit of that all over this area. Just a few miles away we have a neighbor married to his first cousin. They both had to agree not to reproduce or the family would turn them in. Even so, the woman flushed her pills down the toilet in a sneaky attempt to subvert the "no kids" rule. Too late...hubby had already snuck off to be fixed.
Disaster averted.
