I moved to N. Idaho in 1981, so I have been here 28 years now. I live in S. California (probably don't need to say much more than that!) and came here with 2 friends for their brother's wedding. Literally the day I arrived I felt a peace here I had never felt. I knew I needed to be here. I stayed for 3 weeks, went home for 6 weeks to tie up business and pack, and drove up here with my pet bird and what possessions would fit in my car. I have never for a second regretted that decision.

Can this by any chance be a case that CdA is a toursit town, and many of the people are just there to visit? I did notice things are a bit different IN Cda compared to places nearby like Post falls..
For instance the Wal Mart in Post Falls.. I was BLOWN away when I went in the restroom and didnt see ANY graffiti on the bathroom stalls.. They were clean as a whistle.. Now the K-Mart in CdA was a bit different and had some graffiti and wasnt clean.. I took note of that, and figured it must be because CdA see's alot of "out of towners"
I think if you get out away from the toursisty area things are still pretty darn nice..
When I was there a few weeks ago I dumped a load of lumber for my shop right on 95 in the middle of Plummer.. Before I could even get out of the truck there were two guys pulled over and jumping out to help me load up the lumber.. I couldnt BELIEVE it... In Cali I would have been cursed at while people drove right by.. I had NOTHING but good experiences with everyone I came across, but I didnt spend much time in CdA...
I also think hot summers tend to bring out the A-hole in people.. Maybe I'm just used to everyone being crappy, and any improvement seems like alot.. I have been travelling up to that area going on 10 years.. while I do see it getting more crowded, and built up it still has that same feel to me as far as the people go.. I can see already though, Im gonna be one of those getting very upset at people who act a fool, especially if they are from CALI!!;-))Ha!! I can hear me already.. Those DAMN CALIFORNIANS!!!!!!..LOL..
BTW to the OP I hope you dont go far, I need a good diesel mechanic

Bob your right, we arent ALL bad... The type of Californians that you guys are talking about, are the SAME ones the drive me over the edge too... Idaho could go back 50 years in thier laws and I would be cool with it.. I AM NOT coming to Idaho to make it California, in fact I will do everything I can with my voice, and vote to stop it from happening, or going any further down that road..
I drive an old diesel suburban, I work with my hands, I cling to my god and my guns, and I absolutely cant stand what has happened here.. I know of who you speak, I am NOT that Californian and just know there are many like me that want to be free, and live in a better place.

I welcome people like you trace! We need more working people like you around here! I know of the Californians you speak of many of them are my friends. It's just like everything else the few totally ruin it for the rest of us. California used to be the crown jewel of the west. It was the place to live. Too many people used and abused that state to the point of failure. People from down there should really try and stop that type of activity when they get here. This place is worth protecting there is room for all of us. I just don't know why people have to come in and urinate in your face the way they do. I was made fun of to no end by Californians for being from Idaho. They would ask me stupid questions like is everyone inbred? And ask if I lived next to Nazis. But mostly they called me spud or backwoods. I find it funny that they all live here. They don't make fun of me anymore. My how times have changed people. Now your willing to ditch California for Idaho and run the risk of possibly living next to former members of the Aryan Nations. You are also willing to live next to the so called largest collection of white racist bigots in the state. We must not be what others say because here you are...

I had the misfortune to be born and raised in Western NY state. I moved to Idaho for the surroundings as well as the political freedom and strong support for gun rights. I identify much more ideologically with traditional Idaho than I ever did with NY. Sounds like you're in the same boat.
I call myself a native Idahoian with a birth defect.
