I have personally got to the point where i think the for sale sign is going up and we are moving. this is probably more of a rant but, it's just how i feel

If you don't mind my asking, what specifically has changed around the CdA area that has you feeling this way, and if you were to move where would you select that might be better?
Thanks for the input.

I moved here up by Priest Lake because of the natural beauty...the mountains, water and forests. I love the wilderness and when we're in our nearest town, Priest River, the friendliness and small town feel of it.
I know many people like CDA, but to me it's just another suburban area littered with strip mallls set on a pretty but overdeveloped lake.

I grew up very small town people help each other etc. What I feel has changed the most is the influx of people now i dont like to group everybody in 1 cat but 90% of the problems i have are with people from cail. I work my tail off to support my family. I work 2 jobs and just the attitudes of people honestly think they are better than the avg joe and they are some how entitled. It's not just the adults either. kids swearing in the grocery stores, no respect for people or people property. if i acted or talked like this my parents would have whipped my rear end. I truly believe in paying it forward i help a mid 40's guy in a range rover with cail plates out of the ditch during a snow storm in dec. I didnt charge him or even hint about payment. now my buisness name is on my truck. 2 week later i was sued for scratching his bumper mind you it was in a ditch and for assulting his character because i asked him to slow down. back in the day the person would have been thrilled to get out of the ditch and back on the road. there is too much big city ideas throw into a smaller area. I call Cda a city while most people would agree that it not. but when you are bumper to bumper down 95 7 days a week with other peoples music blaring etc thats a city. My wife loves it here and i never wanted to drag her away but i thing the time has come. I do road service work and i feel like cda is gotten way to big for its britches. I have done time in both jackson hole wy and steamboat springs co and you just can tell the differance in the people. while i rant on this is my opinion only.

I suppose I don't notice it as much when I'm in CdA since I spend so much time in places that are so much worse than there. I know many people look at the population of CdA proper and don't see it as a big city, but what they fail to take into account, is that there are several other incorporated cities within 5 miles of downtown. When you take those populations into consideration, plus the non-incorporated areas, you quickly see that there is a population of probably 100K+ within a very small circle on the map.
I also grew up in smaller areas, always drove a 4WD, and always had both jumper cables and a tow chain on board in my high school years, so I understand your anger. I couldn't begin to tell you how many times I stopped to help someone, and I never asked for payment.
It doesn't look like things will change for the immediate area as Kootenai County is showing "explosive" growth (124%) from 1980-2008:
Mapping the Quality of Life in the US | NumbersUSA - For Lower Immigration Levels
There are still some very nice smaller area in the area as Mistyriver was saying above. I really do hate to hear about the law suit issue. I hope it works out for you.

I would say it's not Northern Idaho that's the problem. It's our WORLD, I find this same attitude in the town I live in and I'm beginning to think this is the result of the sixties and seventies coming to bite us in the A**.
People have little if any respect for life and the beauty around them. We see this in the tourist that visit our town. Rudeness seems to be the way and helping your fellow man taking the back burner.

you and I are on the same page. I understand how ya feel. I think it is time for guys like us to band together. This place has changed and reading about people trash talking locals is getting old. I hear it all the time now. The funny thing is atleast I think so is this. If all these people moved up here 20 years ago when it was a logging mining town they would have not stayed long. There was nothing here for them to do. No costco no nice resturants. Just good people enjoying life. It was nice. It's still nice but it is fadding fast now. The problem is that you can take them out of California but they are still Californians. Northern Californians are different they too last there homes to city folk moving into there small towns, wanting the city in the country. It's just the way it is. It's learned behavior and thy look down on our behavior as if they are better. I don't regret being a redneck at least I know exactly where I stand. And I quit helping people I don't know. I never got sued but I realized that I could be. Being a good Samaritan was what I was taught growing up. It sucks that you have to go against your raising. Eventually our way of life is going to be taken away by those who think they know better. They don't I just let them think they do. Your not alone we are out there and we long for our community again.

When you walk around with a chip on your shoulder people are going to notice it and treat you accordingly. Stop judging people because they have California plates and maybe you'll find that, for the most part, they are just people like you and me.
If you don't like CDA anymore because there are too many people fine and dandy. But, the only place you are going to find where there is no cursing, everyone is polite, with nice quiet streets is a town called Mayberry.

I find it interesting that you assume that people who think differently have a chip on their shoulder. I know they are people like you and me. I also know that they are a product of their environment. That they were conditioned by that environment to live in that environment. Just like anyone who has lived anywhere else. If you asked someone what they thought of people from Idaho what answer would you get? If you asked them what they thought of people from California. What would you hear? How about New York? Or any state? Perceptions are just that I know.
No one can deny that Cda is not the town it once was. I can say the same for Sandpoint. They both grew. And in enough time the old residents will be replaced by the new. And the city will become what they dream up. It has been coming for a very long time. As long as I can remember people have been moving here and then moving away. It was a hard life here with low pay and no chance of making a hand full of cash. It's hard from the perspective of a person who struggles his whole life only too see his struggles are for nothing. He has been bought out and replaced by people who have the means to do so. And in the end his struggles mean nothing. And then the available cash he can earn in the town he lives in buys less for his family. And then he suffers for it in the end. And has to move away from the place that he loves. Life is not fair for any of us. Hearing what others have to say is the first step to understanding.

Truth. It's amazing to see how things change in such a short time. And it always has to do with growth - more this, more that, bigger this, faster that, blah blah blah. What tickles me is when people refuse to see the big picture, and think that their own actions aren't part of the problem.
And threadstarter: It used to be that if a case like this came up in Court in Idaho the judge would have tossed it out faster than fast, and then chastised the guy and his lawyer for wasting everyone's time. Back then this sort of thing would have been settled with a pop in the nose, so I suppose we have progressed in some ways...
