Default Biking trails in Sandpoint

Can anyone comment on biking trails around the city? I've read that they plan on expanding the trail system quite a bit (around the southern end of the lake for instance). Are any of those trails still being considered?

Are many of the roads outside the downtown area paved? I seem to read a lot about the mud in Sandpoint.

Hoping to retire there,
George

Have not heard about expansion plans, but I'm not a bicyclist. MOST roads outside of town are dirt except state highways and major thoroughfares. Mud is an issue in March/April, but no other time of year. Just during spring breakup when the ground is gooshy.

Default Here is the complete list of Biking and Hiking trails around Sandpoint, Idaho

While there are certainly lots of dirt roads in our very rural slice of North Idaho paradise, there are literally over 100 miles of paved trails and rider-friendly roads to traverse.

For off-road and true trail riding, hardly anything beats Schweitzer Mountain or Silver Mountain. Schweitzer was so cool the Norba Nationals was held there.

Off Brisboys by Lakeshore Drive is over twenty miles of packed trails. This one is even groomed during winter, something hard to find in our area.

Use this link to see them all:

Biking and Hiking in Sandpoint and North Idaho

Pay attention to the top of the page for the map of the Sandpoint Biking Trail map and the nine miles of paved trails along the Pend Oreille in Dover Bay. This is another winter riding experience since Dover Bay is kind enough to have snow removal as a part of the great service they provide to the community. Even better, this is a favorite ride during the sunny months with locals and visitors alike.

For hiking, you can't hardly beat the walk along Lake Pend Oreille from past Seasons at Sandpoint to the point on land donated by the Ross Hall family.

Right behind Seasons and the water treatment plant, on the sliver of peninsula between Lake Pend Oreille and Sand Creek, there are old railroad service roads and great trails.

If you need more info, shoot me a message and I will try to give you some guidance.

Have a great ride in Sandpoint today.

Hey George, Farragut State Park

We bike on the southern end of the lake a lot. You can go for miles. Lots of riding in Farragut State Park as well.

Not to far from Sandpoint is Canfield. Its in CDA. Lots of trails there too, but also a lot of atv's and motor bikers. Be careful.

NorCalHiker,
On the southern end of the lake - are those trails you ride on or roads?
What is Canfield? Is that a trail?

Trails and road to the south of the lake. Here is a link with maps to a group that I ride with all the time. Good group of people.

http://www.pendoreillepedalers.com/e.../Trail_Map.pdf

Canfield is a trail system that is just outside of CDA. From what I understand, it is a system that has a lot of multi use and may be risky for a novice rider. The US Forest Service at Fernan has a lot of maps of the trail system.

We are going to in Sandpoint the end of next week. DM me and I can show you around. Most of the bikers we encounter are really nice people.

I have also heard about the expansion. I too would love to hear if it is factual or not.

NorCalHiker,

Thanks for the offer to show me around, but I live in Minnesota. I'm just looking into Sandpoint as a future destination in a couple of years.
