Tell your daughter thanks for the report! Trying to imagine our property in the snow...snow on the Cabinets...smell of woodsmoke in the air...sigh...

The coldest I've ever experienced was 20 or 25 below, where I grew up--one or two particularly brutal cold spells. We had to cover our mouths and noses and breathe through woolen scarves...so I've been there! But 50 below would be a novelty!

BTW, I twisted my ankle yesterday, so I've just been sitting there with icepacks in front of the TV all weekend. Haven't been able to find any hot drink recipes yet!

Thats kind of where I'm getting to be too. All the horses we have here now belong to my 14 year old daughter. I'm typing this as I make some hot cider for her so she can brave the temp of 9 (!!!) degrees this morning to feed and water her horse and ponies.
Pony rides were cold yesterday. It warmed up in the sun for a while but a brisk wind moved in on top of Greenbluff and it was cold. We're definitely not doing as well as we did last year. Maybe weather, maybe the economy.. Probably both.

Default Glogg!

Misty,
Too bad the Greenbluff event was frozen out--poor kids and ponies! It's too soon for your daughter to be allowed to enjoy this drink, but the rest of you might enjoy it! I'm warning you, it is an acquired taste!

Scandinavian glögg (mulled red wine) modified from this recipe:
Glogg Recipe - A Recipe for Glogg
Mix these ingredients in a large pot:
1 bottle of inexpensive red wine (you don't want to ruin a good bottle by putting sugar and cloves etc. in it!)
1 big glass of port, or brandy, or vodka (I prefer port)
10 cardamom pods
1 cinnamon stick, broken into pieces
1/2 orange peel
1/2 pound of sugar (I use Splenda, that works just fine)
5 cloves

Heat up slowly, but don't bring it to a boil! Strain it, and then add:
1/2 cup of raisins
1/2 cup of slivered almonds

Pour it into the same kind of glasses you'd use for Irish coffee or punch--looks better than in mugs! Drink while it's hot. And watch out--the sugar will make the alcohol go straight to your head! Serve with ginger cookies.

Yes, I know what some of you might say--why go through all that trouble just to have some brandy/vodka? Just for the fun of it! And who knows, you might even like it!

You can also do a non-alcoholic version of it with grape juice.

Sounds great but I'll wait till I get home to sample it. Towing a horse trailer after drinking it sounds like a bad idea.
The weather forecast for this coming weekend looks kind of grim for pony rides: rain. Maybe it'll change. At least it will be warmer. Hopefully we'll get one good weekend in October. Have any of you been to Greenbluff in October? Green Bluff Growers, Green Bluff Washington is a Diverse Group of Farms producing crafts, foods and wine.

Remember what I said about ATVs...you only have to feed them when you ride them Having said that, I was out with mine over the weekend skidding some logs for firewood, still plenty cold.

Grogg sounds...interesting. I think I'll stick with hot coco and peppermint schnapps though...it's a known quantity, if a bit girly.

I had a traumatic experience with peppermint schnapps back in college and it's never quite appealed to me since.

Hot Cocoa and Chambord though...yum!

Question Need Some Names of Reliable Realtors

Howdy neighbors,

Clark Fork Fantast once invited me to come on up in the state and sit a spell with y'all in this thread. I'm here to read about what is going on and also ask for some reliable Realtors names.

This isn't for me, but someone I've met recently will be moving to C'dA in the summer to work at Kootenai as a hospitalist. I asked her if she and her husband had found a place to live, as things were changing fast, or so it seems in the C'dA area. She said no and she really didn't know how to go about learning options for living in the Cd'A area, until they moved and were actually looking at homes.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of, or has used a good realtor in the CdA area they could recommend? Because I don't want anyone to get to violate the rules here, please just send me a DM. I'm sorry, I don't know the specifics of what they would need for a house/condo or other. However, I must say I encouraged her to look ASAP before the rest of CA and elsewhere fill up the available housing. I suspect this couple will be wanting to start a family, given some comments she's made. If there are areas where you would love to start rearing a child in, please either send me a DM.

Thank you in advance for being good neighbors. Please let me return the favor when I can.

And Broken Crayola, I miss you back in the FM thread.

The Front Porch is nice, even in chilly weather.

Thanks again for any tips of solid realtors.

MSR

I don't know of any realtors MSR, but it's nice to have you on the porch!
