Found out one thing while staying on the Hope Penn. that was not expected. Several times a night trains totally woke up the whole area as they passed through. I imagine there are areas of Sandpoint that would have the same conditions to be aware of. Read more: http://www.city-data.com/forum/idaho...#ixzz0UKdtxCQS

Verizon high speed has arrived and is great. Better have a good job lined up or be retired. The people are great and easy to get along with. Sagle is rural and very country. Horses, Tractors and gravel roads. No street lights, no sidewalks and best of all you have to buy acreage to live here.
Sandpoint is quaint, artsy, unique and a very special little town that will hopefully stay that way. The people are a mix. Sage will tell you more independent than conservative or progressive. He is absolutely right and has never steered me wrong yet.
I cannot tell you much about the snow I am a transplant and am looking forward to my first winter here.

Fisherman100, you are so very lucky. I am jealous, I used to live in both Sandpoint and Sagle.
I myself never found the winters to harsh, but guess they have had some good ones since I have moved away. Here is what I miss. I miss the winter ,the sweet smell of wood burning stoves, seeing the trees turn to ice from the condensation of the wet areas. I miss seeing the moose, deer, elk, bear whatever it might be. I miss people that wave to each other drivin down the road. I miss sitting on the dock at Mirror lake fishin with my Dad. I miss drivin down some of those back roads, tryin to get to a house so I could install their floors. I miss the friends I made there. I miss my kids, if you happen to know them David and Stephanni Walden. Pleas tell them hi for me, and that I love them. Thanks to all, Rich

Aaaaahh, the trains! We almost bought a lovely piece of property in Paradise Valley between Naples and Bonners Ferry, 5 acres, trees, rolling hills--and then, lucky for me, the train whistled by--turned out it was right on the other side of the hill, and it sounded as if it was coming through my head, in one ear and out the other!! We talked with several good friends who own property in NID/NW Montana and they prepared us for NW facts: Whereever there's land to build on, there will most likely also be railroad tracks somewhere nearby, especially along the rivers. I grew up with the railroad about 1/2 mile from our place, so the sound of a train passing in the night is soothing to me--but please, no closer than 1/2 mile! And that's just about the distance from our CF place to the tracks. But people really get used to the sound of the trains at night, especially if they love the area. After a while you don't even wake up. We stayed at a guest ranch in CF, and everything is idyllic there--except for the trains running through the property all night! But after the 2nd night we'd gotten used to it. I'd even forgotten about that until now.

Rich, you need to get back here by the sound of it. CFF Just as I am writing this a train just whistled. We are a mile to a mile and a half away. Went to Round Lake State Park two days ago. Walked in the back way and discovered I was the only person there. Fog on the Lake, fish jumping and a Bald Eagle overhead. Then one of my buddies tells me he heard wolves howling the other night and I should probably carry a gun.
That part puts the reality of Idaho in your bones. This is the real deal, not like the little San Bernardino National Forest I was used to. I have not even scratched the surface of this state, but I do feel at home here.

It always amazes me--the amount of money put into some of the houses along the PendOreille and highway 2...and the tracks a stone's throw away. We have no tracks anywhere near us. All we hear is the sound of the river in front, and the occasional logging truck out on the county road.

Does anyone know anything about a proposed 1300 acre subdivision in the Kelso Lake (south Bonner County) area? I just heard about it on the radio this morning. Seems like it would be way out of place in that area, I'm looking to learn more.
Thanks,
TM

Paper said it will be homes, cottages, low density condos and some RV spots whatever that means. Is kelso in Bonner County? I could not find it on my map.

Hey TM,
You said South Bonner County. Guess I am tired. Sorry about that.
