Just wanted to share...I got home from work a bit before dark yesterday and decided to take the dogs for a walk. We were on one side of a little draw when the dogs perked up. Turns out there were a couple moose on the far side. We circled around and got about 40 yards from them and hung out watching them for a while. I think it was two cows, but could have been a cow and yearling calf, it was dark enough that it was hard to tell. Made my night. We have them around regularly, but I only actually see them on my property a few times a year. Moose may not be the prettiest critters in the world, but (for better or worse) are about the only ones that don't regularly run away when we're around.

What a great experience! You are lucky to have such opportunities as moose simply don't live in most of the US. The only place I have seen moose in person is in Alaska, but never in the lower 48, and never in my own back yard! Too cool!

Toyman, thanks for sharing! How did your dogs react? Don't know if I could keep my dog quiet, and I really wouldn't want to tick off a cow and her yearling calf!
Gonzo, you're coming up this spring/summer, aren't you? Chances are you'll see moose when you least expect it. We almost ran into one driving from Clark Fork to Sandpoint, in broad daylight, on the main road. They hang out on our property when we're not there, which is most of the time () --they leave their calling cards, so we know!

I'm coming in late April or early May pending a few scheduling details. I would love to see a moose or two while I am there, though that could give me an even worse case of Northern Idaho Fever, apparently only curable by permanent relocation!! I once saw a video of a moose on a college campus right by a building kicking the daylights out of some poor unsuspecting student...yikes! I'll keep my distance if the situation presents itself so as not to make the local news.

While we havent actually seen a Moose on our property we have heard them at night making noise, and found Moose tracks not 100 ft from my shop.. It was a cow with a calf which can be kinda dangerous so I guess its good we havent seen them yet..

Heres some pics of an ATV adventure me and a couple of my Idaho buds took a week or so ago.. There was still a bit of snow in places.
We were trailblazing on the property to link our trail to other trails that will get us to the Minaloosa valley in backcountry style.. Dont worry we werent cutting down any tree's and brush that werent on my place..
Some of it is kinda hairy still, and we needed the Stihl, and winch work in places..

So far I have only seen 3/4 of one hid by bushes at Schweitzer. Looked bigger than a draft horse with shaggy hair. Did not see the head. Some knucklehead poodle chased it off before I got a chance to see the whole thing.

Here's a nice yearling having a good time on a spring morning last year. I took the pics while we were staying at the Diamond T Guest Ranch in Clark Fork, just a few miles from our property.

Default Lake Pend Oreille website

Here's a cool website that I found when I researched the Farragut Rifle Range for another thread:
Bayview-Idaho.com
And good news from the Cabinet Gorge Fish Hatchery! Our almost-neighbors! The Kokanee recovery effort is doing great--apparently they're spawning like crazy!

Default 1st anniversary!

Hey gang,
I just realized that tomorrow I can celebrate my first anniversary of having joined CDF! What a year! I'll celebrate with some of that ID spud juice...Thanks for keeping me sane down here with words of comfort convincing me that NID is still there, waiting for me!
