Hi, My name is Debby and my husband and I were planning on moving out to N Idaho or NW Montana, but I just recently came across a foreclosure (30 acres) east of White Bird, ID. Do any of you have any info or opinions on that area? It looks like it might be a little dry....but not sure.... Anyway, was just going back and reading your threads. NID sounds like a great place to live. Take care.

Hi Debby, welcome to the Forum, and the NID Front Porch! For some reason White Bird has become a really hot topic on this forum (maybe because one of the White Bird websites says "The Best Place on Earth"! ), and you can check out the other threads--just do a Forum Search on "White Bird." That's the best way to get information, and then add your own specific questions to those threads. The threads will tell you that it's a very tiny place. "Dry" is relative, since it's just off the Salmon River. In a valley between beautiful rolling hills, green in spring and early summer. I only know it from driving up 95 to Sandpoint. Do a Google Earth and take a look at the scenery and Street View. But to my knowledge it isn't really North Idaho--it's North Central Idaho. Am I right, fellow Porchers?

Sorry my responses are so tardy. Things have been pretty hectic around here the last couple of weeks.
Clark Ford Fantast - Yes, I do keep dreaming and try to enjoy my area, but long to leave CA. I'd pack up and leave now if I could. The baby hummers were so neat! I used to enjoy feeding them but we started having such a terrible ant problem around the feeder that I had to stop.
Trace - Thanks for the welcome! I have the Idaho webcam marked in my favorites and look at it every day, and I so enjoy seeing the photos of Idaho and reading about everyone's adventures.
Shades - Sure hope it doesn't take us that long to leave CA. The house is just about ready to put back on the market when we return from our trip. There are just so many foreclosures here that are selling so cheap that I fear it will take a long time to sell the house.
Gonzo - Hi! I'm fairly new here too. Hubby and I are planning a trip to Idaho the end of April too. Love the CA plates comment.
Elousv - Your photos are so beautiful. It looks so peaceful there.
Clark - Congrats on your purchase. What a beautiful piece of property!
Welcome Deb and Ken!
Hubby has his last eye check up on April 29 after cataract surgery, then I hope we will be leaving to visit Idaho shortly after that. We'll be traveling in our RV with 5 furkids. In the meantime I will keep dreaming, looking at homes on the web and reading everyone's posts.

Hi guys. Thanks for the welcomes. This is really a great site.
Clark: I have been doing a lot of Internet research. Thanks for the advice of where to find stuff. I am looking at everything. It sounds like White Bird is a very small quite place (which is what we are looking for). We spent a lot of years in Alaska (26 for my husband and 10 for me), so we miss the small town attitudes.

Trace,
You are so right. I am amazed at the differences in land prices. We are looking hard and hopefully will get something in Idaho. Thanks for the welcome!

Speaking of land prices in Idaho...the other day I was surfing around some of the realtors sites online and came across 6 acres for sale right down the road from where I used to live. It gave the address so I knew that I knew the original owner and he paid about $30,000 for his 20 acres. Now they are selling 6 of those acres for $169,000! Wow! Kinda makes me wish I'd kept our 20 acres now.

OK CFF, I would run out of superlatives if I tried to describe how great it was out today. So here ya go, not really a hike, just a walk.
This is on Lakeshore Drive, just past the bazillion dollar condos.
The walk is right along the shore. There are several places to catch it and they have restrooms and picnic tables.
Just look at that.
