IDFG announces 2009 wolf season
Saw this on the news last night:
Quote:
PANHANDLE — The Idaho Fish and Game Commission has set harvest limits for the state’s first public wolf hunting season, with wolf tags going on sale at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, according to an IDFG press release.
In the Panhandle, the wolf season is scheduled for Oct. 1 - Dec. 31, with a harvest quota of 30 animals. A resident tag will cost $11.75; a non-resident $186.

I don't get it, re-introduce the wolves, they obviously breed easily and have litters, then kill em'.

it's about time they got after them. I have seen many Elk killed and never eaten. They are the top predator and they need management too. If ya don't why would they fear coming to town and eating your animals for a snack? Town is closer to the woods now. I saw a pack right above Hayden Lake this spring...

You know there are a lot of non native species in Idaho. Elk are not a native species. Pike are not a native species. And the salmon in CDA lake is a non native species. So are the wolves that are in the woods right now. I find it funny that people get so upset about wolves. Where are you guys when it comes to protecting Salmon and Steel head? All the dams put up on our Northwest rivers killed an entire ecosystem and a food source for many animals. In the end man needs to look at how he is changing the environment before he changes it. I think the wolves have their place in the wild. And I also think they need managing. How many wolves are enough to sustain their numbers? Without hunters and fish and game working together who will manage the wildlife we have? What responsibility do we have to the person who gets maimed and killed by a pack when it happens? Man is the problem and by reintroducing them into the wild we have a responsibility to manage them and learn how to protect them from humans. No one is endorsing killing every single wolf in the forest. Most people will never see one in their life time. Because most people don't spend that much time in the woods.

I dont think it matters if people, livestock, pets are killed on top of them over killing the wild animals because they have been told to be outraged about the wolves because it was an attack against Palin.

I don't really care too much about wolves being hunted. My only question to those who hunt them is, Are you gonna eat it? ewww dog...

Agreed. There is no reason to hunt this majestic creature. Nature will find a way to keep the packs in balance.
"Hunting wolves will undoubtedly be a challenge, in large part because the animals are wary of humans, possess a keen sense of smell and are highly intelligent. Baiting and the use of hounds will not be allowed, Hayden said, but drawing wolves into range with a prey-imitating call — a common method for hunting coyotes and other predators — will be legal."
Anyone who thinks that a wolf is at the top of the food chain and wont be obliterated by a redneck with a cause, is sorely mistaken.
