Madison County Raises Property Taxes
In the middle of a recession, some have called an economic depression, Madison County Idaho raised property taxes in 2009. Add this to my increase in health care, and another year goes by where my working dollar buys less. It went up so much I thought I had an adjustable rate mortgage at first. Then I realized, I didn't. They literally raised taxes enough that it covered the extra money I was paying monthly on my mortgage. I shouldn't complain, any land deemed "agriculture" got a 100% tax increase. This is a trick California politicians use to move farming out (over tax the farmers, geet them to sell) so they can build subdivisions and shopping malls to pproduce more "revenue".
When I callled the county assessor and "called" her on it, noting the forclosures, and that housing had to be dropping she lied to me on the spot and said, "Oh, the realtors are telling us housing is going up!" But acccording to the data on this website, the average price of a house has dropped $20,000 the last two years.
Plus, if you've ever been to Madison County, you might wonndder, like I do, what they will be spending their new income on?
