It's 28 degrees and we have our first frost. Luckily, I covered the mums but the frost will definitely be on the pumpkins this morning. I hope they're okay...they're still not completely orange. The weatherman is talking about it being 45 in Spokane. The temp differences are amazing in this area.
90 degrees on wednesday. Yuck.

Well we're on our third frost I've been up a few hours and it's now 39* If this is a sign of things to come, we're in for another "good" winter.

Yuck? Bite your tongue! Wednesday is our last day tubing on the lake before the boat gets put up for the season!

I'd like 3 months of October. That sounds perfect to me. Tubing? That is like, so last season.

I can live with the frost and cool nights...fall is my favorite time of year around here. It's just the shorter days that get to me...darned near dark by 7:00 now . It doesn't leave much "outside time" after work. I need to start humping...need to finish getting firewood in.

Hey...kids will tube until the lake level is so low we can't launch the boat. I'M the one saying we have to be done since it's too dang cold out to drive the boat around....kids will be blue from the cold and still want to tube...

But I love this weather...I surely do. We were out there covering tomato plants late last night too...but with all our kids and all those flashlights...it was like a bad horror movie. What is it about kids that makes it impossible to hold flashlights steady? It was like working with a strobe light...hahahaha....

Hi Sage, Hi Toyman:

Neighbor saw Mountain Lion in pasture next to my house. Seems to be wandering the neighborhood. Keep kids and pups close to home...

ohhoh. Kind of cool, but kind of intimidating too. I have yet to see one in the wild, lots of tracks but no lion. Our dogs seem to fair just fine even with all the coyotes we have howling around our place...a lion is another story.

We had cougars here prowling around the cabin when we first moved here but the activity and dogs (I'm assuming) seems to have kept them away. We haven't seen tracks in years thank goodness. Cougars are (IMO) the scariest thing out there. A woman 5 miles away from us lost her Arabian stud to a cougar a few years back.
We were on the porch watching the river and having a glass of wine yesterday evening and heard a bull elk bugling. No matter how many times I hear it, my hair still stands up on the back of my neck . It's an eerie sound...but beautiful.
