Moving in the winter
I thought we discussed this before but somebody reassure me.
I might be going into an escrow soon if the new buyer gets his stuff together.
Are we nuts to try and move to the Emmett area in late November or December ??
Is that road north from Winnemucca to Boise a slushy mess in december??
I will be towing a 32 ft 5th wheel and I am wondering about the Ice ???
Is there another route I should take??
At least we would be there for Spring

Yeah DR it's called winter and in these parts the only certain thing, is well uncertainty. We can wind up with clear skies even hours later after Twin Falls or even Hailey gets dumped on! I've even witnessed getting dumped on when living on the west side of IF while friends on the east end got nothing.
Grab a set of chains at a Napa store, if you don't need them you can generally return them to any Napa store for a refund, or at least it used to be that way.
If you knew of anyone or any place that you could beat hoof and get that trailer up here pronto that would be a good idea. I have a cousin in Boise and could always ask him if he's got space to leave a 32 ft trailer for a short time. Can't recall if he parks his trailer at home or if he rents a spot for it.

I agree DR Get that trailer of yours up here and put it in storage maybe, if you can not find some one to keep it for you. Under cover is better. Down that way I am not sure how much snow happens. People up here have to shovel the roofs off their trailers usually. Yippieee DR I am so happy things are moving forward for you.
We have moved in winter before. Heck we moved into Rubys house on Dec 22 .

Hwy 95
DR I've driven it in November, and yeah it can get interesting, but it is just like you leaving your house now and heading over Donner Pass, Your not going to do it without a favorable weather report. And besides your moving to Idaho (damn I'm jealous) you'll need the chains anyway eventually. The way it usually works, if you have the chains tucked behind the seat of your truck you won't need 'em. But if you don't have them look out.
I've made an even dozen trips to Wyoming in the late fall and not had to put on chains but you live and die with the weather channel in country like that.

The one thing I will say about that road is if you have to drive it in the winter, drive it during the day. Even if you drive it in the summer, drive it during the day. It is pitch black at night. Also,it is the back end of nowhere, and some areas don't have cell coverage so you can call for help in an emergency.

Would it be wiser to take the I 80 to Wells NV. then up through Twin Falls to 84 west to Boise rather than that Winnemucca north route ??

I've never driven the Winnemucca - Twin Falls road by that route, even in the summer, so no idea what it would be like, but the Twin Falls to Boise on I-84 can be ugly in the winter too. They sometimes close the freeway due to not being able to keep up with the drifting snow. That's a very windy stretch of road.
I don't think it would necessarily be any better.
Oh, and I cross my fingers for you that the construction across Donner Pass is done by then. It was ugly last month going across there.

Iv'e been coming on that route to Idaho for 6 years.
I have always seen construction on Donner pass.
I think we will take our big camping trailer soon before snow and put it in storage in Emmett. Then I can load my truck with no trailer.
Then all I have to do is watch my wife drive her own car
I am going to start drinking heavely tonight to prepare myself for the trauma

DR Just watch for good weather. Get all you can up here now. For the peace of mind pay the money for storage even wife's car so she and kiddies can ride with you. Heheheheheh
Most times we went the Winnemucca rout. Except when we were moving to Clayton. But that move WAS in summer. Course it happened to be the summer it snowed on the fourth of July. I have to work tonight or I would have a cold one , or dozen, with you. This city job is really cutting into my night life fun. Sigh
