Safe to move at this time?
We are unsure when exactly my husband's company will need him in Idaho Falls. He has only accepted the offer just last week and still have to wait for all the final paperwork, signing and all that. Our best guess is that we will be moving from Texas to Idaho Falls sometime in November, possibly early December.
With winter coming I am wondering if this going to be safe? We will be driving a 26 foot uhaul pulling a trailer. I will follow my husband in our small non 4 wheel drive suv.

I would trade the non 4wd for a 4wd before moving here, especially if you've no experience with winter driving. You'll encounter snow through Co as well as WY and of course here in ID. I'm stabbing a guess at your routing as my husband is on his way to Lewisville, TX right now and that's the routing I know
If your husband has no experience in driving in icy/snowy weather, you might want to swap for having your items moved by a reputable service.
The interstates do close during winter, so plan your travel around the storms as best as possible.

Trade our brand new vehicle is by no way an option. Neither my husband or myself have any experience driving in winter driving. Hopefully his company will give us a relocation package and we can have a moving company move or stuff and then we will can ship our small suv and fly up to Idaho. That is best case scenerio though so I am planning for the worst naturally.
A part of me says it would be best to just get rid of practically everything so we could just haul a small trailer. I just wonder if it would end up being more expensive in the long run because we would have to replace lots of large items once there.

If trading the vehicle is not an option, then at least get some winter tires, studded helps quite a bit or something that is super siped.
When driving on the ice just remember to give yourself plenty of time to brake and plenty of room.

^ Great advice given above. Be careful, do your best to travel when the sun is up...slow, safe, and steady is the way to go. Best of luck in your upcoming move. I am sure you will love the area.

since you have no winter driving experience, i would def do some reading online for tips in winter weather. DO NOT USE YOUR CRUISE CONTROL. i'm bolding it because that is crucial. you need to be in control and aware. black ice is bad enough, you dont need the cruise in there to make it worse
I-15 from Pocatello area to IF is almost always bad.
IDASpaceman is RIGHT, travel with the sun, once it goes down it's COLD AND COLD and the roads freeze up in seconds.
being an IF/Rigby native...i would honestly try really hard to get a moving co, and then fly up to the IF airport. but i understand that is not always a feasible option.
best of luck!
oh and dont feel like you have to keep up with the cars who race by you. chances are, you'll see em a few miles up, off the road. i see it every winter, especially at the beginning. always gives me a chuckle.

From your lips..... Yes, I've seen it too not only traveling here in our neck of the woods, but all across the Nation. It amazes me when folks tend to think their vehicles are invincible

Gotta say ditto to both cleosmom and pooskie 33 about driving. Adults move all the time from southern climates and learn to drive in Idaho Falls. Cleosmom would know far more about this than I, but potentially driving lessons for adults may be available?
Going slow will always be safer.
Check your mail in a while.

We moved to Blackfoot (25 miles south of Idaho Falls) 2 years ago. We came from Virginia Beach and actually traveled in on December 22. We had 2 cars filled, 2 kids, 1 cat and 3 ferrets! LOL We were right in front of a MAJOR winter snowstorm and were trying to hurry through Wyoming and get here. I was sooo sick (warning do not drive while sick and in a hurry to get somewhere) Some truckers in Wyoming told us to take a short cut through Soda Springs on highway 30. Wow this helped us get here so much quicker and before the storm. Now instead of a snow storm to worry about I had a HUGE deer play chicken with me and my car around one bend. So I guess that is my warning to you. Be looking out for the deer coming down from the mountains. They do tend to run out into the road alot. I know they also graze along the shoulder of I-15 on the Utah/Idaho border. So be on the look out. They are fast little buggers!

Good point abbie!! They also tend to feed at certain times of day and night, plus a full moon will bring them down big time. Coming on US 30 saved you a lot of time compared to the 80 over to the 15 and up
