I've been looking at Wallace, too, as a possible place to retire. Looks a bit like some of the valley towns in Colorado but with more diversified trees, which I love. What's the elevation of the town? How long are the winters? What's television reception like in the valley? Is there cable? Where do folks go for a nice dinner and a stroll?

News Article
Idaho or Breeh,
I saw this reprint from the Statesman in the Seattle Times today and was wondering if the article was accurate.
Thanks!

I was there yesterday. This is the most beautiful town I've seen in ID and WA (save for Leavenworth). After I came home and checked the stats on it I couldn't believe it has only 960 people. What I loved about it most is that it's so compact, being located in a tiny valley. It has a very neat downtown which has more two-story downtown-like streets than CDA's downtown, I think! It's kind of squarish. All the private houses are beautiful two-story ones. There are a bunch of houses located high on the mountain sides, I have no idea how the cars reach there in the winter. It's actually the first town I've been to that doesn't seem to have poverty areas at all - everything looks neat and middle-classish despite posted average household income at 22k or so. It's so cozy, I returned to it 3 times in one day (I went to Burke, came back, then went to Murray, came back). I took plenty of pictures while driving around, if anyone's interested, let me know I'll post them.
Btw, Kellog (which is a dozen miles away from Wallace and has about 2600 people) is very nice too, it has a bit of european toyish fairy-tale vibe to it. It's more spread though and doesn't have that cozy small room feel Wallace has.
I'd imagine living for a while in any of these towns (Wallace preferably) would be a blessing.

You're right there, ATV recreation is one of the town's big draws and sources of income. Downtown streets are open for ATV use, and there are some very nice trails out of there. This is the first time the Nation has come to the same place twice, says something about the quality of the area. I plan to be there for 4 days, I can't afford the vacation time to spend the week.
