Can someone tell me how the roads are from Sandpoint to Coeur d' Alene in the winter? Also, the roads up to Schweitzer Ski Resort. Are they windy, steep icy? Do they keep them maintained well for visitors? Thanks

US 95 to Sandpoint is generally bare pavement almost all winter. During blizzard conditions, sections south down through McCall or Grangeville might close overnight, even the section north of Moscow closed once, but I can't recall the section to Sandpoint ever closing.
The road to Schweitzer isn't that high and is even better maintained in winter than the highway. It's no problem.
Many people get studded snow tires for winter, but if you're willing to wait a few hours after a good snow (which is a good idea anyway, as traffic is slow when they're plowing and sanding the road), you won't need them for that trip.

Question Sandpoint

RodFarlee are you from this area? I have a few more questions if you don't mind. Thinking of relocating up that way. Thanks

Okay, I was looking around Moscow but, have since moved a little further. Have you been to Priest River any thoughts there? Or some of the small towns not to far from Sandpoint.
The only thing sometimes with the small towns the law enforcement can be real harsh on newcomers and kids. But, like living in the country!!

Sorry, it's been years. Might be more likely to get a local reply if you started a new thread with that title.

Smile RodFarlee

Thanks for your reply. I notice most people look to move to cities and really don't know too much about small towns. I have been to different states on this site and it just seems to be that way. But, maybe I will post a thread on it. Thanks
