Because the lds plays a big role in certain communities in S. Idaho, and it is fair to warn, tell, inform--whatever, newcomers about it.

In reference to the article sited above, I find it hard to believe they can poll a mere dot in the state's population to arrive at that figure.

Quote:
It's official: Washington state is the country's leading bastion of the unchurched, according to a recent survey. In a massive sampling of 19,761 adults 18 and older during a six-year period, a pollster found that 29 percent of the Evergreen State's populace attend a worship service in a typical week -- compared with Louisiana, which has a 56 percent weekly attendance, the country's highest.
I'm not arguing with with SergeantL, however that poll is as silly as the Nielsen TV ratings. Just because a select few across the country (possibly) watch ER, doesn't mean that the majority of the population watches it as Nielsen would like you to believe.

Having said that, if given time today I might see if I can find a more reliable source

Huh? Never have claimed to be a "madam" Nor have I attended any of the other universities you cited, that's alright I'm used to "not knowing anything" by being the baby of the family, yet that's a whole different talk show

You've motivated me and I'm glad I'm off work today and this weekend to pursue my research quest

Well, I need to get running right now and tend to some errands. However here's an interesting survey for your perusal. Mind you, even the author of the associated article claims "who knows how accurate the results are?" USA Today

There are 33 pages of posts: to warn, tell, inform-whatever. If you bought a sign on the freeways leaving CA you couldn't warn people more than this site has. Give it a rest.

Tell me about the beautiful mountains within driving distance of Boise, or the fine art activites in the Boise area. Are there any art colleges? How do Idaho colleges rate against the national average? How is the commute during the winter? How much snow does Boise get compared to Idaho falls? Are the elementary schools the best or worse in the country? Which schools are best? What areas are better to buy a home in?

Etc.....folks just get tired of hearing the warning over and over and over again.

Let's talk about all the other wonderful and not so wonderful things about Idaho

You just listed several characteristics of Idaho, all important factors when one is considering a life changing move. If the LDS has a material presence in Southern ID, wouldn't that also be a worthy factor to discuss before making a life changing move? Religion adds to the culture/lifestyle of a community and most people, at least those on this forum, are looking to move to ID for lifestyle-related reasons.

Also, for the record, my experiences with the LDS have always been great. I think they are certainly an asset in any community.

I love Idaho, it will always be home. however the people I can live without. go ahead and flame me, I don't really care. this is my truth and it can not be denied by anyone or any Mormon apologist
I live in the Rexburg area which is worse than Blackfoot. I'm also Catholic and have been "politely" ridiculed for it. I've met a few people that are really nice and accepting but our family has been shunned here. I'm not going to sugarcoat it. Its a beautiful area and town. The people are nice and friendly, there is very little crime but you really need to be LDS to make a life here. Your kids will be lonely and if you are a single adult, it will be very hard to make friends or meet a member of the opposite sex.

My problem isn't with Idaho. I like the state, I just don't want to live where everyone is LDS. Not because I dislike them or their religion but because there is a barrier between those that are and those that aren't.

We are moving to the Boise area. It seems like there's something for everyone there. Idaho is like any place, you need to be sure of where you are going and what works best for you and your family before you make the decision to move to a certain area.

I appreciate your post, but I would like to analyze it for a moment. I'm not so sure the word "shunned" is an accurate term. You probably did not realize a full social life with your Mormon neighbors because their social life is centered around the Church, and since you are not LDS, you were not included. This does not mean you were not wanted or purposely excluded. Scouting, young women's activities, adult activities, ect. are Church activites. I would experience the same isolation if I lived in Italy and did not partake of the activities offered by the Catholic Church, but I would never claim the Caholics shunned me.
