p.s. I am a Born again Christian currently serving time in a Southern Baptist Church. I drink for fun, have been known to drop the occasional WTF? and certainly drink more coffee then Juan Valdez can bring into this country. I also love the Lord with all my heart as do my wife and two kids.
You sound like me and my family.
Here's my theory on living amongst LDS. As long as you live in a bigger city where you can get a drink at a restaurant, there's a good Starbucks and more of a variety of people, its fine living amongst LDS. Its the small towns like Rexburg that I wouldn't advise moving to because its so boring and there is nothing to do there for those that aren't members of their religion.
And to think I live in Rexburg. May I state, a quote from a friend, "Rexburg has very fine people, many of whom are Mormons, most of those who moved there from somewhere else." I don't think there is a bar in Madison County come to think of it, but McDonald's now serves their McLattes.
Rexburg, and Eastern Idaho in general is in transition. The old farming familes are selling out (and losing 60% on their investments...), the people like me who moved here because it is rural are disappointed at the growth, and there are some of us who are LDS who don't care what your religion/or lack of religion is.
I have never protested against, nor called about, anyone's personal preference for marriage because at a basic level of humanity, it isn't my business.
I even vote Democrat. Which isn't anyone else's business. Even though I just spilt the beans.
I don't smoke, but love the smell of tobacco.
I don't drink, and don't care if someone else does. I'll even be your designated driver if need be. I spent nights in Las Vegas doing that.
Rexburg can be a drag if you let it, but there is so much in Idaho/Montana/Wyoming to do, that often Rexburg is just the place I sleep and work so I can have access to the great stuff that is all around my family and I.
