I grew up in Blackfoot. as a Catholic. it was horrible and I will NEVER forgive any of the "polite" Mormons who live there. not having friends when I grew up really sucked because I want the right religion. and please don't tell me it was isolated, I lived it everyday for 23 years. as far as Mormons becoming more open and accepting, that's a joke too as far as I am concerned. I love Idaho, it will always be home. however the people I can live without. go ahead and flame me, I don't really care. this is my truth and it can not be denied by anyone or any Mormon apologist

I hear you JamesinlittleRock. Sage of Sagle may delete both of us...whatever, but I think that the truth needs to be known that in some areas of Idaho if you are not Mormon and live in an area that is predominantely Mormon you WILL be treated horribly. City Data is about people relocating and questioning what areas will be like. Anyone that is not LDS and is considering moving to an area that is mostly LDS should know this information. We moved to Grace Idaho, about a little over an hr. from where you lived in Blackfoot. When I arrived I knew nothing about the LDS church and arrived with an open mind. As far as I was concerned they were just another religion. We lived there only because of my husband's work and were transferred there. We were there 5 LONG horrible years. We were treated like dirt. When it became obvious we would not convert after a few visits from the local ward, we were treated badly. I always associated people that were deeply religious, no matter what religion, as people that would be giving, caring, helpful, and pleasant. Well forget it! They treated their dogs better than us. I consider City Data a forum where freedom of speech is allowed as long as it does not involve personal attacks. This was our experience as your experience was yours. It was not isolated, it is widespread in that general area as I am sure many other areas of Idaho. If we are deleted because of these statements it is a sad commentary to City Data's stand on freedom of speech.

brokencrayola,
I think you're giving CD a very unfair rap. We are open to constructive discourse on topics of interest to people considering relocation IN THIS SECTION. Should anyone desire to discuss the Mormon/LDS religion, including pretty heated discourse, there is an appropriate section for that.
So the "enforcement" you'll see is normally if a person ignores the posting rules, or just gets nasty to another poster. Having strong feelings over the way you felt you were treated is valuable information, as long as it's shared in a way that respects other members of this forum and their right to post as well.
Oh...and the freedom of speech issue...let's not go there. This is a privately owned forum and we are completely within reason to insist that people who post here ADHERE to the rules they AGREED to when they were allowed to create an account here. Yes?

bc,
If it would help you understand the issue at hand, I can PM you copies of your posts where instead of discussing the LDS influence in IDAHO you were specifically having a comparative discussion on the religion's practices within a family. I welcome you to refer to my original post about the reason for this thread's existence for further clarification.

It is funny. Some of these people who are so anti Mormon probably refer to themselves as being diverse open minded people. What hypocrites.
