What is it like dealing with government agencies? Are they reasonable? Or do they have the attitude that they are doing you a favor by letting you live in their state?
It's going to be a very long time before Idaho becomes like CA. The smog inspections really aren't that bad. It's worth it to keep our air clean. They only cost $15-$20.

Yes. The government agencies are very reasonable compared to where you live.

After reading this entire thread, I have to say it is a comfort in this day and age to see the majority of Idahoans here are passionate about the desire to maintain the quality of life they have enjoyed for years.

In only around 10 - 15 years my state has become a fiscal and social mess due to excessive spending, corrupt and/or deteriorating local control, special interest $$ from elsewhere and radical postmodern public and higher education - teaching dependence, a disrespect of traditional norms while promoting the UN's world view which not only threatens state sovereignty but national sovereignty. Look up postmodern if you need to define it, it is worth your time to do so. The sick irony is that our high property taxes fund turning our children (not mine) into exactly the kind of people who would change what we have valued about the quality of life. This is the agenda of NH schools (yes, in the "Live Free or Die" state) - not just those which offer the IB program. Watch all of your schools closely, Idaho. I believe IB is already being offered in CDA.
Given the fact that you are already aware of how some transplants have been changing your home you will probably be outraged at the realization of funding the indoctrination of your own children.

Yeah, that's how the smog inspections started out here in California too.

Then the prices go up.

Then the scope of the inspection increases.

Then the prices go up.

Then you discover they wont even let you own certain vehicles anymore because those vehicles don't comply with the restrictive rules.

Never mind all the productive man-hours lost for the sake of jumping through a hoop for the privelege of paying a fee.

It is not a good thing. Not in any shape, manner or form. It is simply a bureaucratic dream come true.

CDA's population passed the 300 mark in 1885...and the 3000 mark in about 1905...so I'm curious as to this reference...

Default Moving to North Idaho

It's such a shame someone moves to Idaho and soon after finds it to be a mistake and feels the need to move away. Perhaps they haven't truly explored the area to find all it has to offer. We moved here several years back from the San Fancisco/Bay area. Although we LOVE Calif. and try to visit now & again. Living here has been a splendid blend of country/city living. We have a beautiful B&B on the CDA River, Thyme on the River, B&B. It's fabulous, meet many interesting ppl, have access to some of the best fishing/country living this area has to offer. Yet we are less than an hour from Spokane & all the city has to offer. We are putting this B&B up for sale so we many move on to yet a larger establishment. We'd never leave N. Id. it's simply so beautiful....

Anak, is telling the truth. It usually starts out as a way to get federal funding. Then this beast takes on a life of its own. It starts out cheap to get you sucked in then goes up from there. Ours went from $29-$59. Then they start telling you what cars you can drive. Fairbanks, Ak. got rid of it and Anchorage Ak. voted to dump our i/m program. dont ever vote to allow more goverment into your life. Its to hard to get rid of.
