The old Silver Horseshoe in St. Anthony
I see that it is up for sale, can anyone give me a little history about the place.
from what little research I've be able to do, it has had a couple different people trying to make a go of it in the recent past, was it just bad management or is it that it is no longer a viable business for the area?.
And does anyone have an idea of about year it was built?.
Thanx,
~D

Well darn,
I had hoped for some replies, well at least I'm getting an indication through lack of replies that maybe it would not be such a good idea to buy the place.

Sorry, it beats posting up something inane just to fill space. Would help if I had any info on the place, ya know?

I'm not quite sure how to respond to your post Sage, were you inferring I posted something stupid & was constantly badgering people for a response?, or may it have been 'really' you meant that replying to my post was 'better' than posting up something inane?, no big deal anyway.
inane = adjective silly; stupid : don't constantly badger people with inane questions.
I suppose I could have elaborated more, however I figured were I to receive any responses they would have been from those familiar with the place, so I'll let my questions stand as they are, & resign my self to the fact that there may not be anyone on this board who has any knowledge about that for which I inquiry.
Anyway, I'm sure we've both misunderstood each other, so I'll leave it at that.
Thanx ~D

I think you misread my post. What I meant was that not responding was better than just replying with something purely speculative, but that if I had relevant info, I certainly would have tried to help. Nothing more to read into it...just trying to help.

I have lived in St. Anthony all my life. The Silver Horseshoe use to be the hottest thing in town. I worked there in High School and it was packed every night. It has always been a bar and grill. The last owners had two people working and it was dirty and slow to get food, and the help was not the best. I think with the right owners and management it would come back. As far as when it was buit, I know it has been here since 1976. Most of the building on the main street of town are old, but some have been remodeled. The Horseshoe sits right next to another bar. This bar has been remodeled and people in town called it a yuppie bar. The managers are from California and the locals are use to small town apeal. I think they do a good business. The neighborhood is very friendly and don't let people scare you by saying it is LDS community, there is alot that are not, and those that are, are still nice. The town sits 11 miles north of Rexburg, which has BYU-I. And to the north is Ashton at 12 miles and Island Park and West Yellostone which are around 45 miles or so. This is a great small town but alot of building is going on around us both from the south and south-east. The realitors say it will hit this town too. Lots of potato farming and ranching. Lots and Lots of outdoor activities too. Please let me know if you would like more info and I can find it out for you.
Glad to see someone might be interested.

the Silver Horseshoe
The Silver Horseshoe has a long and illustrious history in St. Anthony. I can't tell you when it was built, but the building has been there since around 1900. Roy Powell, father-in-law of the original Mrs. Powell's cinnamon roll franchise, owned it from sometime in the 1940s until the mid 1970s when he retired and sold it to Jeff and Linda Pope. They ran it successfully for several years, but the next two owners didn't do so well. I would blame poor management and the downturn in bar business.
When Roy had the Horseshoe, it was known throughout the West for its steaks. Roy cut his own meat on site, and the food was very good.
With proper management, good food and good service, the Horseshoe could do very well. If you come to town to look, check in with me.

My father currently owns the Silver Horseshoe. I belive he's owned it for quite a few years and has leased it out to a couple of different people over that time. The last people left it filthy and in need of total repair. He's sick with cancer so he can't fix it up or run it himself. My husband and I are from New Jersey, but are thinking of coming out to help him remodel and get the place hopping again. I read in a comment that there's a "yuppie bar" next door. We are definitely NOT yuppies so this place would have the kind fun atmosphere that people there are used to.
I'm just curious though.....how well do you think this bar would do if we get it up and running properly?
