Thanks for all the great info. Everyone is so nice over there! Makes me more and more confident of my desire to live there. We won't actually be able to retire for five or so years yet. I'm thinking that once my hubby is vested here (in a little over two years) we may look for a contract programming job for him in Boise. We've seen ads for his line of work there in the past. That would at least get us over that way. Then we could rent, look around, and continue to work a few more years before retiring. Just a thought.....

Hi there,
Star, Middleton, Kuna, Emmett, New Plymouth and Fruitland are great areas worth looking at!
Moderator cut: soliciting. This greater Treasure Valley is expected to grow into the number one market in the US in about the next 4 or 5 years.
Folks from Vegas and Phoenix are relocating here.
We have Micron, HP, MPC, Simplot and Microsoft here... all of these are international companies with a growing work force - all of them headquartered here except Microsoft...
Opportunities for real estate, and employment are strong here...

Ever think about SW Ontario. South of Detroit, beautiful warm/hot most of year. Between Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair and Detroit River. Beautiful countryside and prices are good now.

I'm living on mountain land in the panhandle. It's beautiful and I love it, but the roads are hard in the winter and there isn't much grazing for horses. I've been looking more to the lewiston, Kooskia, moscow area but don't have a lot to spend on real estate...can anyone give advice?

Hi,
It really depends on many factors. Boise is a large MEtropolitain area with all that entails. Twin Falls area is much smaller ~50,000 or so. Youi might want to check out a town called Hagerman. It is 20 minutes from Wal-Mart Etc. and has around 500 people. The Snake River runs through it. One of the nic factors is Hagerman is in the canyon and is typically warmer than surronding areas. My wife and I are moving close to there and 4-5 acres plus a house and some outbuildings runs $200-300,000
Hope this helps a bit

Yes, I too am looking for a place to retire to in the near future. I like the idea of having space around me but I also want to be near stores airport, hospitals and things of that nature. Looking on the internet is a great way of learning about the area but asking those who live there is the best to get a feel for the different areas.
