I predict you'll grow disillusioned and leave CDA within 2 years. I've found that the more enthusiastic people are about moving to the area, the quicker they become disillusioned and leave. Enjoy your stay while it lasts.

Oh Gee, thank you for your stunning revelation Mr. Cheerful! And might I add ... Oh blah, blah, blah! Seriously, and I am kidding you a bit unclebigs, but my congratulations and best wishes to kstorts for a decision well made. It takes some amount of courage to attempt to make your life better with a move like this, and good for you. If you don't do it, you will spend the rest of your life thinking "what if?". My wife, kids and I have come to exactly the same conclusion after an extensive amount of research, and are looking forward to a move to somewhere in the Sandpoint/ Coeur d'Alene area in the coming year or so. We also will bring our business with us, so it's Commiefornia's loss, and Idaho's gain. A lot of our decision was based on research and numbers, but some of it is just based on what the heart tells us to do. Let's make a pledge though to try not to Kalifornicate Idaho, and to keep it the way it is, to blend with the Idaho culture, and embrace the lifestyle we moved there for. Hopefully we will run into each other up there sometime. By the way, I am in Ramona Commiefornia, in eastern San Diego county, and know of a number of people who have moved to Idaho, including the Sandpoint area, over the years, and they are still up there and regard it as the best thing they have ever done. One such couple up in Ponderay said that they are thankful every single day. Best to all! Mike

Great Post!! And I wholeheartedly agree!!! We absolutely dont want to bring California with us here... Like I said leave Cali in your rear view mirror, and lets work as hard as we can to keep Idaho the way it is.. THATS why we're coming here anyway.. I'm sure many "Natives" are nervous about the influx, and for good cause.. Just look at whats happened to states like WA, OR, and CO being overun by Californians bringing thier crap with them...
Good for you Commie!! And yeah, One of these days we will have to get together and have a NID meet and greet.. Still plotting the Hoot and Shoot too..;-)

This is exactly why I avoided those states, and decided on Idaho. These Kalifornians (ha ha, listen to me) are like cockroaches in the apartment next door, they keep coming in no matter how many times you spray, My hopes, and current appearances from what I can see, are that Idaho is getting the more conservative types, and that Commiefornians who are fleeing the rampant socialism may be the ones heading to Idaho. God help me, I hope so. I read somewhere in my research that Idaho is actually increasingly conservative. Maybe we are of a different mind set, you and I, one that will help to keep Idaho strong and unchanged. I'll be quiet now, because I am starting to get political, and find myself reaching for my soap box. Mike

Mike, that echo's my feelings too.. It seems like Idaho has that Redneck reputation that keeps the Commies at bay..HA!!! The Californians that I know that have moved here are harder core about conservative/libertarian ideal's than most native Idahoans.. Im sure there are exceptions, but I think people coming here are looking for what Idaho IS, not what they can transform it into.. At least thats what I HOPE!!!

Good luck on your extraction! I think you will really enjoy living in America again...LOL...

Regardless of where you are coming FROM, I think you'll enjoy life in Idaho and specifically around CdA. I have been in Spirit Lake almost a month now (I just could not afford CdA proper) and have yet to meet an unfriendly person anywhere around. I moved here from Arizona, although I was born and raised in So California back when it was still beautiful and kind (50's and 60's)...but really no one yet has asked me where I came here from. Odd...maybe I already look like an Idahoan?

Good luck to you in your venture and your new life. Nice people always find nice people waiting for them...of course, the opposite is also true, I suppose. But I have a feeling you will be meeting plenty of nice people

Thank you all!!

Commie- I could have written that post myself, I feel the exact same way!!!

Trace-Definitely getting some of those tires!!! LOL and great advice- thank you!!

Unclebigs-all my family and friends share your negetivity and hope I fail. Are you from California? In your experience, are the people that move there pissed off that they have to move there usually the ones that stick around the longest?

Hatehumidity- thank you!!

I am excited and nervous...the closer and closer it gets, the more nervous I get. This is by far the scariest thing we have ever done...but yes- i don't want to be sitting here as an old woman always wonding what could have been if only I didn't live in fear....so, we are doing it! If nothing else, it will be an exciting adventure.

We have plenty of money saved up and have a job back here if we do need to return....we already have work lined up up there...just found out are application and everything was accepted on a house we are trying to rent...so yay. things are falling into place!!!

...now to finish packing!!

You won't need to return to your old job! You have done the research, prepared well, saved money (who does that these days?), and thought things out. Now all that's left is the normal anxiety of a new situation (job, town, friends, etc) and actually getting started.

Expect to have a few doubts or second thoughts along the way, even if CDA is PERFECT. It just takes a few weeks or months to establish a new routine and get comfortable with the change. I agree that at least this way you will have no regrets. Just don't let a few small missteps or bad days make you change your mind early on. I even feel homesick after moving from places I really do not like at all...just not for long!

Have a safe and enjoyable move!

I'm in Coeur d'Alene right now. Pretty area but bad traffic and some very run down places around town. I plan to look at a some large acreages later today. Prices are far higher than Moscow, ID. It's going to be hard to beat my 160 acres in Moscow. I had a couple of pints of Manny's Pale Ale at Moontime last night. I love that place and their beer is the coldest, freshest anywhere.
