I have accepted my offer to study human factors psychology at UI and I couldn't be happier about where I will be!
I have done a ton of research both online and talking to current UI graduate students and have ben very happy with everything I have heard about Moscow and northern Idaho.

I will be moving up from Las Cruces/Santa Fe New Mexico in July (Grew up in Santa Fe and will be there for the summer and I got my B.A. in psychology at New Mexico State University, Las Cruces).
I am thrilled about the small town environment and outdoor activities that await me in Idaho.

I still haven't found a place to live but have a few in mind. I will be continuing my search in the coming weeks. Any suggestions?

I had a few questions about Moscow..
How many months out of the year will I be able to rely on my trusty mountain bike to get me to class? How many months can I expect to deal with snow?
What is the ONE place I absolutely need to check out when I get to town?
Any other general pieces of info that a new resident might find helpful?

Best,
joe

Congrats Joseph! I can't offer any insights to the area, but wish you the best of luck, and I came across these pictures while researching and thought that you may enjoy looking at them (flickr actually has quite a bit if you search on their site for pictures, this is just one set I stumbled across Moscow, Idaho - a set on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/terryandchristine/sets/1134862 - broken link)).

Best of luck to you!!!

Thanks for the link to the images!
I've been trying to find all the pictures possible since I haven't been able to visit yet. I can't get enough of this region.
It's going to be such a welcome change. We get snow in Santa Fe but not like the winters up there. And Las Cruces has two seasons; the hot season (summer) and the warm season (the rest of the year). The past 4 years in LC have starved me of cool weather.

Thanks for the good wishes. It's going to be an eventful and busy two years!

No problem! And I give you many props for surviving in that weather!! haha, I am a cold weather person, so dealing with that much heat....

I got my BA in psych too Fun stuff! Getting my masters (or PhD) is a dream of mine...but it will have to wait until I pay off my BA, haha. So, congrats to you on that as well!

As I mentioned before, Las Cruces can be a bit much. Last summer we had 10+ days of straight 100 degree heat.
Not quite as bad as Phoenix though, one time we were visiting family and it was 97 at midnight!

Anyhow, I'm going to be the desert rat up there, new to the real winter experience of northern Idaho (though Santa Fe winters, while more dry, do get pretty cold (days straight of single digit temps this past January).
I'm a jeans and hoodie kind of guy so I'm looking forward to the cooler springs-summer-fall seasons as well. I get about 2 weeks to sport the jeans and hoodie look around here lol.

Congrats on your BA!! Going back should be a definite thing if it's something you want to do!

Yea, it can get like that at time here too in CA (we don't get the 97 degree weather at night thank god!). I definitely couldn't handle the desert weather, I have a hard enough time with CA and it doesn't get as hot!
I'm a heans a hoodie kind of gal, so I certainly know what you mean!

Thank you! Yea, it will happen eventually...as soon as being a student becomes a paid profession, I will have found my dream job!

Jeans and hoodie are the way to go!

I hear ya on that new profession, I keep telling people that I don't want to grow up.
The only thing I want more than to not grow up is to not be broke anymore.

LOL!! that's funny!

So, I did an advanced search on here and entered Moscow, ID. I found 2 threads you may be interested in checking out:

what's BAD about Moscow?

Moscow, ID (even if I will be working in Pullman)? And where to rent?

There were more of course, but these seemed like they may answer some of your questions. Don't let the subject of the thread on the first one scare you- it isn't a Moscow bashing contest- I included it because it contained information that I would want to have if I were moving there!

Well, I've scoured through the "what's wrong with moscow" thread and thought I have found every single moscow related thread on these boards until now. Thanks!
