is Wallace "it"?
So glad I found this site! My husband and I moved to western NC from New Hampshire a few years ago, bought 5 acres with a killer view and built my dream log home! Had such a bad experience with the whole building/financing bit we ended up selling it less than a year after building. So disheartened now, renting again, and deciding to move again to find that "serenity" again. Is Wallace "it"? Looking for some land in the mountains that won't take the rest of our lives to pay off! The pictures I've seen are very appealing, is it really?

Seekingserenity, where did you live in NH? We moved to NH 3 1/2 yrs ago and thought "this is it". Now the town we live in has seen so much building in those 3 yrs-we live in Littleton. We are thinking about moving again and Idaho was one of our choices. We want to be closer to our kids--in 29 Palms CA but we DON'T want to move to CA. I had heard Wallace was a nice town. We want snow and a slower lifestyle. Also a town with a working railroad would suit us as we are train buffs. Hopefully we'll both find what we want. This site is great!

We lived in Hooksett, down by Manchester. I know Littleton, that whole area up there, Franconia, Littleton, Whitefield, if you're into camping theres a nice place in Franconia, Fransted Family Campground. We would get a site right on the stream, nice place and people. We moved because I was getting tired of the cold. Now we're in the south in the mountains and the weather is wonderful, but this area is getting ridiculous with all the developments, that's why we're starting our search all over again.

Have you considered Colorado?
I'm from Phoenix and surrounding area, but have lived in Fort Collins, CO for almost 9 years. I wanted to get away from the big city "heat," and all that accompanies it. I'm looking at Idaho now, mainly for the smaller size towns. Just thought I'd mention Fort Collins if you're looking for something with all 4 seasons, enough snow to satisfy (but doesn't usually stick around more than a few days), low humidity and lots of sun--basically, LOTS of variety here. Nice people, too. So why am I looking elsewhere? I'm past the point of appreciating what a university brings to a town. Or, maybe I just need a change. Idaho is looking better to me all the time. Oh, we're on the eastern side of the Rocky Mtns., so there are plenty of serene mountain towns nearby. Cost of living isn't the best here, though.

We've been through parts of Colorado, something about it didn't grab us, maybe it was the part we went through. We are drawn to certain types of trees, sounds weird huh. Wallace looks like it's got alot of the kind we like

Not weird in the least! I'm glad we're all different and seeking the variety of things we do, AND that we live in a country that affords us that freedom. I can only imagine what some folks in certain other countries must think of a forum such as this.
That "something" that didn't grab you about Colorado is a very good barometer for where you belong. Glad you're trusting it.
