Justice Department Challenges Constitutionality of Tough Law Targeting Illegal Immigrants[/b]

U.S. Suit over Ariz. Immigration Law Coming Soon
Immigration Reform Taking Political Center Stage

(CBS/AP) Updated at 4:15 p.m. ET

.

The U.S. Justice Department on Tuesday filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Arizona's new law targeting illegal immigrants, setting the stage for a clash between the federal government and the state over the nation's toughest immigration crackdown.

The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Phoenix argues that Arizona's law requiring state and local police to question and possibly arrest illegal immigrants during the enforcement of other laws such as traffic violations usurps federal authority.

This should be interesting. I’m still trying to understand how AZ is usurping the feds since the law mirrors our existing federal laws. The last time I checked, it is still unlawful to enter this country without authorization, or to overstay a visa. Non-citizens are also required to carry documentation. So, how is it unconstitutional?

Jimah obama has directed his personal Justice Dept to sue for the sole rights to decide which immigration laws to not enforce.

This is great news. Based on this move by the Justice Dept, I will assume that all state and local police depts will now have to stand down on all drug enforcement laws since they would be usurping federal power....

Here's my question...since we, hubby and I, as a household that live in Arizona, and the feds, which receives our tax paying dollars, are we suing ourselves?
